Crema's Take
“Theatre Cafe is a beloved Bloomington institution that's earned its stellar reputation through decades of consistency and genuine hospitality. Whether you're settling in for a leisurely afternoon with pastries and a carefully crafted coffee or treating yourself to an upscale meal, the thoughtfully curated menu and split personality—casual cafe on one side, more refined bar atmosphere on the other—makes it easy to find your vibe. The outdoor seating, knowledgeable staff, and commitment to quality across drinks and food have made it the kind of place locals return to again and again, while newcomers immediately understand why it's worth the stop.”

My wife and I stopped in for our first time visit after a 10 hour trip from Upstate NY. We really enjoyed the variety of choices and after our long drive decided to keep it simple and have a small greens salad with Salmon and the uptown burger and steak fries. We were pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was and we received very good service as well. We really enjoyed our first visit and would recommend this place to all. Bon appetit!
This has been my favorite place to eat in Bloomington for decades. Just enjoyed a date with my husband there on Wednesday. They have a new menu, and the quality was as good as ever!
Uptown Cafe is a great choice for an upscale meal in bloomington. The food is very high quality and the ambiance is very nice. They have made some menu changes over the years which remove some of our favorite items from the menu, but they still have plenty of delicious options to choose from. I highly recommend their brunch. The bagel and lox is the best in town. The fish is extremely high quality and the bagel is delicious as well. The omelets here are fresh and served with your choice of toast. All of the egg breakfasts are priced very well too. Their cocktails are very high quality, with familiar favorites and specialty drinks. I recently had a bad experience with the service, but the owner reached out to me and made it right. These are people who care about their diners having a great experience.
We sat outside it was nice the motorcycles on the street are loud but not overbearing. Restroom was very clean! Waitress was nice and knowledgeable on food pairing. The price is roughly $25-30 per person per plate not including drinks. The food quality and serving size is worth the price.
This place was amazing. We didn't eat dinner but had drinks and desserts. They were both terrific. The restaurant is divided into a dining area and a more bar atmosphere side. The staff was very attentive and professional. Highly recommend 💚💯💯
