Nero Kitchen By Caffe Nero
284 Thayer St, Providence, RI
Crema's Take
“Nero Kitchen brings the polished European café experience to Thayer Street with a genuinely welcoming crew who make laptop workers feel at home. The espresso-focused menu spans from traditional drinks to creative specialty options like their café frappe, though consistency seems to vary slightly between visits, and you'll want to give their pastries and light bites a closer look before committing.”

I placed two “to-good-to-go” order that had its pickup window adjusted because of the incoming storm (2/22/26). The app clearly showed the new pickup time as 3:30–5:30 p.m., so I arrived around 4:00 p.m. to pick up my order before the weather worsened. When I checked in, the employee at the front told me pickups were not until 6:30 p.m. I explained that the time had been changed due to the storm and showed her the updated information in the app. She instantly then said the pickup time was 4:30 instead, which was different from what I had originally been told. When I expressed concern that worsening conditions might make it unsafe to return later, I was essentially told “too bad.” I understand that storm-related changes can create confusion, but the interaction felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude, especially given that customers were trying to plan around severe weather. I’m fortunate that this inconvenience didn’t create a larger issue for me, but I can imagine how frustrating, or even difficult, this could be for someone relying on that order. Clear communication and a little empathy would have gone a long way here.
It’s a great and cute place to work! Comfortable spot to take a laptop and work. Staff was super nice. I did not like my London fog from here though. Maybe some places make a different version?
I usually eat at the cafe but sometimes I have to get a takeout. My soup container was half filled. It made me feel ripped off. Either get smaller containers or fill them with soup properly. Also do not get any toasted sandwiches here, they are dry and difficult to eat. It might be the bread type. Chocolate cake is dry & crumbly (good to look at but not tasty). Croissants are decent as is tomato soup.
I ordered the cafe frappe, caramel flavored and the blt sourdough. The frappe was not what I expected ( more frothy/foamy than thick), but still good. The blt was good.
major nero stan alert. so glad this opened on thayer st so i can basically move in to my second home. servers here are so hospitable, manager needs to chill out seems a bit stressed about the opening, but i appreciate the hard work nonetheless. love my protein smoothies from here and the refreshers. today i got a vegan breakfast sandwich on gluten free bread and it SLAPPED didn’t taste vegan, didn’t upcharge me for the gluten free bread, didn’t fall apart or crumble. highly recommend.
