The Couth Buzzard - Books & Community
8310 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA
Crema's Take
“Nestled in Seattle, this beloved indie bookstore transforms a simple coffee stop into a genuine community gathering spot where you can linger for hours with a traditional espresso drink, browse an expertly curated collection of new and used books (with deals that won't break the bank), and catch live music or an open mic in the evening. The staff radiates genuine warmth, the vibes are refreshingly chill, and the addition of comfort food like mac and cheese makes it easy to settle in whether you're studying, meeting friends, or just getting lost in a good book. It's the kind of place where you come in looking for one thing and leave with an armful of treasures and a new favorite spot.”

This place is so lovely. I went in looking for a gift for someone, and left with a stack of books I can’t wait to read! Excellent collection, kind staff, and a comfortable space that fosters community and caters to locals in thoughtful ways. I was even given a free matcha latte by staff! (Someone changed their mind on their order and the barista didn’t want it to go to waste.) I look forward to my next visit to this magical little bookstore :)
Can’t believe I haven’t discovered this place before. They have a good selection of new and used books. Prices as low as $2 for certain books. There’s place for you to sit and read. They have coffee and some food options like soups, sandwiches, salads etc. You can also find beer on tap (with happy hour from 4-6pm) They have small events as well such as open mic, board game night, and music jam in the evening. We lucky stopped by when at the perfect time. wholesome ❤️
Great book store / cafe / community space! I went there to study and got Mac and cheese and it was pretty good. There was an open mic later in the day which got a pretty good turnout. Nice selection of used books and local art and whatnot!
Very welcoming and chill vibes. All the staff I interacted with were super helpful and pleasant. They also had a deal going on where if you bought 2 books, you got a sale book (marked with circular colored stickers) for free. I adore that they serve coffee as well as wine and beer. My only small complaint was that although there was abundant seating and tables throughout the store, most of it was not comfortable for sitting and reading. Adding more throw pillows for the all wooden furniture would solve this problem easily. I will definitely be back! 😊
This is a small business bookstore, complemented by live music and a cafe, creating a charming and multifaceted haven for book enthusiasts. Book Collection: The selection is thoughtfully chosen, appealing to various tastes and offering a diverse range of genres. Ambiance: The addition of music enhances the ambiance and also provides space for local artists to showcase their talents. Cafe Integration: The inclusion of a cafe is a brilliant idea, allowing visitors to get caffeine fix or a quick snack. Community Feel: The small size fosters an intimate setting, making it feel like a community hub rather than just a store. This sense of coziness encourages patrons to linger, read, and connect. Staff Engagement: Friendly staff; they were filling up for someone else so had limited knowledge but were helpful. Overall Experience: I felt that this small bookstore, with its fusion of books, music, and a cafe, offers more than just a transactional visit.
