Dear Sunday Cafe

Crema's Take
“Dear Sunday Cafe is a thoughtfully run brunch spot in Tallahassee where the details matter—they'll give you an honest wait time estimate when you call ahead, and their no-plastic approach extends to a genuinely inviting patio that feels special. The kitchen excels at elevated comfort food, particularly their shrimp and grits which reviewers rave are some of the best they've ever had, paired with creative drinks like their banana frosted latte that match the care put into the savory dishes. It's the kind of place where families and friends linger over well-seasoned plates and quality coffee, though timing your visit outside peak brunch hours will reward you with a more relaxed experience.”

Review time: Wait: Called ahead and listened to their wait time (45min-hr on Sunday at 1020am). Drove over and parked at like 1110 and when we walked up we got seated immediately, accurate wait time! Seating: Sat outside, it was nice weather, most of the tables are covered with a triangle thick mesh. I'd say there's only a small portion not covered by the shade (maybe could get one more triangle shade in there?) It was fully packed outside but it wasn't loud, it was still relaxing and didn't feel cramped and the small trees and plants were cute. The outside portion would be wheelchair accessible definitely (didn't look inside so can't comment on it). Service: To start the hostess's in charge of seating were really nice. Got us a seat asap and we're friendly. Our waiter we had, Lance, was very friendly and helpful! The wait for food was a little long (Lots of people excited about this new place :)), but Lance made sure to keep us in the know and update us which was awesome! Very good service! Food: Okay food food food, good! We had biscuits and gravy, probably my favorite of what we got, could be a full meal, BIG biscuits, yum! Got poppers with apple butter, basically like soft croissant ball that's airy you can dip in apple butter. And then I was a bit dissapointed with my smoked salmon eggs Benedict, it's just locs with eggs Benedict. Just wasn't what I was expecting and could've been a bit warmer, but again busy. Overall, good experience and I'd try it again!
Nice place with no plastic and the patio is quite nice too. However, the food wasn’t as impressive as the reviews here make it seem. The “shakshuka” wasn’t prepared properly - only one egg and just added on top instead of cooked inside the sauce. Tomato sauce was tasty but very heavy on the garlic and gave me pretty bad reflux. My friend’s shrimp and grits looked good but the portion size was on the smaller side. She said the dish was okay but nothing special. Prices were high for this portion size. Also, the shakshuka was labeled as gluten free but actually served with wheat baguette bread. The space is quite odd too - no windows and natural light inside. We also felt rushed - got the check without asking. Drinks were pretty good. If we go back it’ll be probably for drinks only on the patio.
The food/coffee taste and quality was top notch. However, some menu items are overpriced. Time your visit well. I happened to go with a party of 4 at around brunch time and we ended up waiting an hour plus to be seated (after being told it was a 20 minute wait). They’re probably still finding their groove as they are a newer restaurant. Also, note that they offer complimentary valet service. Would go back for the coffee.
I had the shrimp and grits and biscoff cookie pudding. Both were a 10/10. This was quite literally the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. The grits were very well seasoned as was the shrimp. The pudding was heavenly. My server was very sweet. The interior is charming, outside seating looked nice but was gloomy so I opted for inside. Highly recommend and will be back.
Great experience, amazing food, nice cozy place, customer service was outstanding! We got the shrimp and grits, huevos rancheros and banana frosted latte!
