Brew On U

Crema's Take
“Tucked inside a lively hostel just off U Street, Brew On U delivers a uniquely vibrant atmosphere where you can settle in with excellent espresso drinks and fairly priced pastries while watching the constant flow of travelers and locals. The café strikes an impressive balance between serious about coffee quality and refreshingly unpretentious, offering plenty of comfortable seating both inside and out along with reliable wifi—making it equally suited for focused work sessions or leisurely hangs. It's the kind of neighborhood gem that feels like a secret despite its proximity to the U Street corridor's energy.”

fun smaller shop off the main street. loved the quiet ambiance of it and the in and outs of the hostel guest staying in the building. The cafe has wifi with enough seats inside and out for enjoying a coffee. My flat white was well made and my family enjoying their hot chocolates. best part.... it's very very affordable, a good $1-2 cheaper than most places.
I think this place has a lot of potential to be the best cafe in the neighborhood. However, I ordered two empanadas and they should have been reheated with more care. They were broken and one had raw dough. It was no problem bc I reheated them when I got home They tasted much better than they looked. I also had a coffee with condensed milk which is not typically something you can order around here so was pleased with that. The prices are very affordable. I will definitely try it again and hopefully have a better experience.
I was very pleased by the quality and variety of the coffee and pastry selection, and the prices are really fair for this city. A couple things to note: (1) This cafe is located inside a hostel, so the sitting area is a bit more run down than some of the images depict. There are a lot of suitcases around, etc. (2) The wait for our order was relatively long. This isn’t the fault of the barista. She was very friendly and helpful. But there’s only so much she can do when she’s 5 orders deep and the only person working. I really felt so bad there wasn’t another employee to help her, especially considering the place seems to be pretty popular with locals and travelers alike. I highly recommend the cro’gel (croissant + bagel) which seems to be their signature dish.
I love the ambiance in this cafe- I can’t believe it’s right off of bustling U street! The mocha was pretty good although it is more on the milky side. I would have given it 5 stars but it took 15+ min to get my mocha. Granted there was only one person working but I would reconsider going here if you’re in a rush.
Located inside a capsule hostel just off of U Street NW, its selling point is its location. It's around the corner from the U Street Metro station and popular U Street NW with its many restaurants, bars, and stores. The space itself is large. There's no consistent decor or theme. It's really just a few more-bare rooms with random wall hangings, a neon light, and places to sit. The cafe itself offers a full espresso menu. For almost $7, I ordered a medium pumpkin spice latte. It was among the worst I've ever had. It lacked any flavor and tasted more like burnt coffee. It may have been just an off day so I'll go back and try again since I've always heard great things about Brew on U.
