Civil Goat Coffee

2610 Manor Rd, Austin, TX

Crema's Take

Civil Goat Coffee crafts genuinely excellent espresso and pour overs in a peaceful, quiet atmosphere that feels like a true refuge in Austin. While the shop has built a loyal following among coffee enthusiasts who praise the baristas' knowledge and passion, recent reviews suggest the experience has become inconsistent—service that once felt warm and attentive now occasionally falls flat, and their digital ordering system seems to create frustration rather than convenience.

I used to love this place but don't think I'll be going back. The digital ordering situation is ridiculous. The two baristas behind the counter do not acknowledge you or say hello. You're expected to scroll through this iPad and check yourself out, meanwhile the fully competent employees stand there and watch. What kind of world are we living in where we aren't even supposed to speak to one another? It shows a complete lack of consideration for the customer's experience. It also gives no opportunity for the baristas to earn a tip, given that they essentially provide no service. This iPad situation is a baffling decision by Civil Goat's management. I hope they reconsider.

I’ve been coming here for a long time, and the coffee is truly amazing. The staff behind the bar are wonderful—knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. That said, ever since the switch to the digital iPad/kiosk self-service ordering system, the experience has changed for me (and many others). One of the things that originally made this place such a gem was the human interaction -- the conversations, the recommendations, and the thoughtful advice on drinks and food items. That personal touch really set it apart in a city with so many great coffee shops. I still love the coffee and respect the team, but I do miss the connection and hospitality that made this spot feel special in the first place.

Okay I’ve been going here for years and generally am a big fan. Great coffee, acceptable breakfast, walking distance from my house BUT the winds have changed. Great service has now been replaced an iPad. You walk in to see two baristas chatting behind the counter, fully ignoring you while you wait for somebody to ask for your order, and then you notice that counter service has been replaced by an iPad you have to digitally order on. Blech. It’s 2025, not 2020, you have no excuse. Also, if I was ordering from a person I could ask why I have to pay an extra 50¢ for vanilla in my London Fog when the ingredient list literally includes vanilla and when the ordering mechanism literally requires me to choose a syrup.

The drinks were quick and okay. For a cafe, 50 minutes for a takeout order with 2 items is crazy. It didn’t seem that busy but a heads up would’ve been nice. The goats are cute. The atmosphere and environment is really spot on, perfect place to work remotely. It’s a shame our experience wasn’t great.

Civil Goat is DELICIOUS! Their variety and quality of coffee is above expectation and the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. This coffee shop is located in a safe part of town. The service was quick and helpful as well. I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family. I would come back.
