Crema's Take

Fred's Garage is a beautifully reimagined space where industrial charm meets cozy café vibes, complete with live music and inviting seating areas that make you want to linger for hours. Beyond their standout specialty pizzas (locals rave about the Garage pizza and breakfast varieties), they've built a genuine community hub with thoughtful touches like military discounts and a curated retail shop up front. The owners' warmth and attention to detail shine through in every interaction, making this Shallowater spot feel less like a casual coffee shop and more like a gathering place where regulars become friends.

This place is a gem. Great coffee, drinks, sandwiches, and pizza. The Garage pizza is the best. Honoring the military with a discount is a huge plus for me. Everyone has always been real nice. I been missing out for a while and wish I knew about this place sooner. Been coming here for about 6-8 months now.

The café itself is beautiful and thoughtfully put together. It has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a cute retail shop up front, a cozy seating area with sofas, live music, and an outdoor area where kids can run around. My partner and I stopped by for a little date night, and when we saw the TTU football game playing, we were excited to settle in and enjoy the evening. The music was lovely, and we even tipped the singer because we were really enjoying the experience so far. I ordered a cappuccino to start, and it was delicious. I really liked the mug it was served in. My partner ordered the Reuben sandwich and a Model T, and he enjoyed both a lot. Everything started off great, and we planned to stay, eat, and watch the game together. I ordered the club sandwich because it was the only menu item that didn’t list mayo as an ingredient and I love sourdough bread. When it arrived, though, it had mayo and large chunks of onion. My partner tried to help by saying I’d asked for no mayo and asked if they could remove the onions. The young man who served us seemed upset right away and insisted I must not have asked for no mayo. He took it back to the kitchen, then returned, dropped it on the table, and asked loudly, “Will one of you two eat this?” It was uncomfortable and embarrassing. I can’t have mayo because of an egg allergy, and my partner offered to take it just to ease the tension. The waiter seemed very young and stressed, and since it was a busy night, I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt even though his attitude toward me felt unnecessarily sharp. Not long after, an older man who appeared to be part of management came over holding our receipt. He began reading it aloud slowly, as if to prove no special request had been made. When I explained that mayo wasn’t listed, he cut me off and said, “We’ll see about that.” He grabbed a menu, came back, confirmed it wasn’t listed, then told me club sandwiches “typically come with it.” His tone felt dismissive and argumentative, more focused on proving a point than helping resolve things. By that point I was very uncomfortable. Both men’s attitudes toward me felt rude and defensive, turning a simple misunderstanding into something unnecessarily unpleasant. When the remade sandwich was brought out, the waiter stayed at our table and took it upon himself to life up the bread and point out all the ingredients the remade sandwich was made with and then condescendingly asked me if it was to my liking. This is when I decided I wasn't going to eat the remade sandwich, and I didn't Toward the end, the woman who the waiter said was the owner came over, and she was very kind. She chatted with us, refilled my partner’s drink, and brought to-go boxes and lids for the fruit. She spoke gently, had a beautiful smile, and seemed to truly care that we left on a better note. Her kindness and professionalism stood out and helped ease what had been a really stressful interaction. It was clear she takes pride in her business and wants people to feel welcome. We took both sandwiches to go, but after how things unfolded, I didn’t feel comfortable eating mine. The experience left me shaken and disappointed, especially because we had been so happy to find such a nice spot to enjoy live music and watch Tech win. Thank you again, lovely lady, your kindness didn’t go unnoticed, and I thought the selection in the retail area and decor throughout the establishment was absolutely gorgeous.

Oh my goodness, what a gem of a place! Such a great vibe of garage meets glam! I ordered the breakfast pizza with cauliflower crust and added bacon and bell peppers… and was so surprised to see diced red, yellow, and green bell peppers on the pizza! (I was expecting big chunks of just green peppers) Anyway the pizza was quite yummy and the atmosphere was calm and quiet. Super cute little shop near front of the store and lots of Fred’s Garage merch. And the greatest surprise ever… … (wait for it) … THE BATHROOM HAD A HEATED TOILET SEAT!!!! My first experience with such a luxury! It was a surprise at first, but then I laughed out loud and quite honestly, wanted to stay a while! This place is definitely worth the trip from SW Lubbock! I can’t wait to go back in the evening and have their cocktails!

Hands down the best pizza in the 806 and maybe even in all of TX. This is such a gorgeous restaurant with the sweetest people working inside. We had the Cobb Salad, pepperoni pizza, sweet ride pizza on cauliflower flatbread, and supreme pizza on cauliflower flatbread. It was all so dang good and the crust was perfectly crispy. We loved the cozy and cute atmosphere as well. I wish we would’ve found this place much sooner. Do yourself a favor and eat here!
