Crema's Take

This beloved Honolulu institution specializes in beautifully crafted Japanese-style cakes and pastries that strike that perfect balance of indulgence without heaviness—think moist matcha cake, delicate mango tart, and fluffy Asian pastries that locals have been returning to for over a decade. The warm, attentive staff makes it feel like a neighborhood gathering spot where families celebrate milestones, whether you're grabbing a quick coffee or lingering over a slice of their subtly sweet Vienna-style cheesecake. It's the kind of place where you'll find genuinely impressive baking at reasonable prices, with drinks like caramel café au lait that round out the thoughtfully curated menu.

As a local, kulu kulu has been my favorite desert shop for over a decade. It is never too sweet, and the staff is friendly. When there’s birthdays, my family & I always choose kulu kulu. This year, we got a Christmas cake! They always have specials, like a hello kitty version of my favorite strawberry shortcake too. I also like their iced Kona coffee and jelly matcha, they’re so underrated! Make sure to get a stamp card too!

Visited them first to get the chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday and it was excellent! Then over a few days we’ve tried strawberry cake, mango cake , cheese block ( tasted like Vienna cheesecake 👍🏻), strawberry roulade cake and cheese soufflé. Everything was light, fresh and delicious. Tasted exactly how it looks. Recommended

After grabbing some bento box’s from Komedokoro, we saw this bakery. If you love Asian pastries this hits home. It’s fluffy, light and not too sweet just how I like my cakes. Price is reasonable too.

The Japanese cakes are cooked perfectly, moist and not dry. I got the matcha cake and I also got the caramel cafe au lait (a bit too sweet for my personal taste).
