Hungry Ghost Coffee
156 7th Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Crema's Take
“Hungry Ghost delivers genuinely excellent coffee and matcha drinks with a barista team that clearly cares about execution, though the Brooklyn location's awkward layout and cramped flow can feel a bit chaotic during busy times. The espresso-focused menu shines through thoughtful pour overs and creative specialty drinks, with staff like Madeline creating memorable interactions that elevate the visit beyond just grabbing caffeine. If you can navigate the space and embrace the controlled chaos, you'll find some of the best matcha lattes and espresso work in the neighborhood.”

I’m getting Hungry Ghost a 1 star simply because of the atmosphere. Staff, coffee and food are 5/5 but the atmosphere is HORRIBLE. And my review will be distasteful. This is not a kindergarten, playground or afterschool social club. Every time I come in here there are kids running around, no seating space, loud and messy. I understand, I completely understand parents want a morning cup of coffee and who am I to say you can’t have that. But the constant flurry of kids, in here has truly degraded any positives I would want to say. If you don’t mind kids running around, loud coffee shop with a 10 min wait then this is your place. Again, I want to say that this has nothing to do with the staff which are all amazing, service, or quality of coffee. This is just a review of the horrible environment management cant control
Really nice coffee! Odd layout of the 7th ave store, customer flow is a bit off so I felt in the way a lot plus lids and stirrers were at the opposite end of store (where you order, not where you pick up) just made for awkward wandering 😅 However, drinks were made quickly and was great - the seasonal special honey cinnamon vanilla latte was perfect.
I really like matcha latte here … soft and good as my fav ! Madeline is the one that I recommend! Yum … I love it.
Solid hot matcha latte with oat milk. I don’t understand people complaining about their ice matcha lattes being watery, what do you think ice is? Presentation of this hot one was top notch, tasted pretty great with some subtle but deep earthy notes. Could have been a little stronger to help me mitigate a Saturday morning hangover but perfectly acceptable and creamy even with oat milk. Staff seemed totally fine to me, I don’t need a barista to be my bestie, just be clean, efficient and make a damn fine cup of coffee (or matcha in this case).
A cute little coffee shop with a great selection of espresso drinks. I had an iced oat latte & was very satisfied with my drink. The server was a lovely girl & we had a nice little chat while she made my coffee. I wish I had more time to sit and enjoy it—the place looked incredibly cozy!
