Crema's Take

The Ruffled Cup is a bright, Instagram-worthy bakery café in Amarillo where the real star is their genuinely impressive cupcakes in rotating flavors that locals rave about—though fair warning, the service can be inconsistent and the staff seem more enthusiastic when you're ordering their signature baked goods. It's the kind of place worth visiting for the pretty atmosphere and that perfect cupcake, but manage your expectations for the overall café experience.

The cupcakes are AMAZING. The service? Needs a lot of work. At least for the main lady who looked like she was a manager... I was considering Ruffled Cup for my wedding - cupcakes, dessert bars, and a 6"/8" cake. Almost every business/caterer I've spoken to has been upfront, friendly, and professional, except for the lady I had spoken to. Right off the bat, she was was interrupting me, rushing the conversation, and didn't really give me a chance to explain what I was even asking for. I wanted to set up a wedding consultation/appointment, and was flexible with THEIR busy schedule... Her attitude the entire time I'm trying to even set up this appointment was "I'm too busy for this". Like she had much better things to do. After she asked my wedding day, she kept saying I had plenty of time and that I didn't need to have an appointment so early on. I told her I'm scoping out different businesses early on so I can just decide on who I want to move forward with. Still she kept this nonchalant attitude about how me requesting an appointment was like some burden for her. When I asked a few questions, like serving size, pricing, she just wouldn't offer clear answers and said she would she couldn't offer much help even at the consultation, which I feel like is the whole point of a consultation. Yeah, safe to say I'm not using their services for my wedding. It's a bummer though because their cupcakes are so good, and I would've loved to show off this business and the yummy goodies! It really does matter who is the face of your business, because that lady seemed like she was in a managerial position. She just did not have the professional attitude, and I would rather find a different business than work with someone who may or may not be nice about their service for my very important day. And I know it's not all of the employees - but it does take one rude interaction to make the whole experience unpleasant.

The lady who took our order seemed to have a sudden mood shift whenever she realized we were not just buying the cake parfait. I told her we would also like two of the 9-5 boba drinks, she make them, begrudgingly. Whenever we received these drinks they seemed okay at first, but as soon as I got some boba through the straw I realized she had served us undercooked, congealed tapioca pearls. I enjoyed the cake parfait, but I don't think I will be coming back due to the rudeness of the staff along with the quality and price of the items. If I am paying $6 for a drink, I expect it to be something I can finish and not have to throw away out of disgust.

I got a recommendation to visit this place for their cupcakes, so I went. I hadn't eaten and was planning to stop by and get cupcakes on my way to get lunch, so I was pleasantly surprised to see they served meals. I got the pretzel club and, as a side, the loaded pub chips. The pub chips were superb! The chips were fresh and seasoned, and the queso was homemade, which made this side one of the best I have had. The pretzel club was also great; they didn't skimp on the turkey and the toppings paired well. As a treat, I got the sheet cake cookie and the Dubai cookie. Both were excellent! I am looking forward to my next trip to Amarillo so I can go back.

When you visit a place to eat, you expect some sort of consistency. I always order this particular salad. It NEVER comes with dressing already on it. Today, it did. And omg. Look at the size of those chicken pieces. I’ve never seen them this large in a salad. The salad was soggy with no croutons! I couldn’t even force myself to eat this. This isn’t the first issue I’ve had with the food at this place. I guess it’s my fault for continuing to go back. Sorry guys. Not anymore. Signed, - cranky and still hungry and out $14. Update: They corrected my order and delivered it to my home with a little cupcake. I updated this review to include 5 stars for customer service! They also advised that they now toss the salad. So just remember that when ordering.

The Ruffled Cup is pretty and bright bakery/cafe. I recommend a visit for the atmosphere alone. It's a nice place to sit and enjoy a treat. They offer many cupcake flavors. (I visited a few hours before closing, so the cupcake case pictured was not as full.) You can also get cookies, ice cream, boba tea, and more. There's a lunch menu at the Amarillo location from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. I tried the Ruby Red Velvet and a lemon flavor. (I don't remember the name of that one.) They were both good. One cupcake will do the trick. Trust me. 😃 Note: If you don't love lots of frosting and prefer a moist batter, the cupcakes may not be for you.
