Crema's Take

Cafe Ficelle in Camarillo is a casual neighborhood spot that shines brightest for pastries and breakfast—their croissants are genuinely excellent with that perfect flaky-buttery exterior, and their breakfast sandwiches hit the mark, though coffee quality seems inconsistent depending on who's behind the espresso machine. It's the kind of place that works well for a quick Saturday morning grab with family or a meet-up with friends, especially if you're more excited about a buttery pastry and a traditional latte than seeking serious specialty coffee.

Skip this one and go to the one in Ventura, went the other day and the staff helped the person in front of me then just ignored me when I got up to the counter to order and continued talking, I work food service too so I gave them a minute but then they greeted the person who came in after me while continuing to ignore me at the counter so I just left 🤷🏻‍♀️ the one in Ventura is much nicer and friendly this one is a let down because I was excited to have a location closer to my house but nope, ill make the drive or just go somewhere else if thats how their staff treat customers. There were at least 4-5 staff behind the counter and it was slow since it was the morning so there was no excuse in my opinion, but I guess I just understand more about giving customers great service 🤭

They were busy when we got there around 9:30am on a saturday morning, but seevice was still quick and friendly. The chocolate croissant was absolutely delicious. Coffee latte was adorable and nicely frothed. However the expresso sho in it was a bit sour and needed tuned in. Overall cute cafe in a conventional location in walkable Old Town with lots to do and see nearby.

I had the breakfast sandwich with a side of fruit. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good and the english muffin is huge with a lot of flavor. One of the black berries in the fruit cup had mold on it and it didn't look like they washed their fruit because there was dirt on the blueberries. My girlfriend got the quiche florentine with a side salad. She really likes the salad, and she liked the quiche, but it was cold in the middle. They probably just reheat it in the microwave which is fine, but its a huge piece that doesn't reheat well. We complained about it and they just gave us a new one togo that was also cold in the middle and didn't give us the rest of the salad back. Sort of a weird setup for a kitchen and the food could be better with more care given. Disappointing given the price. My girlfriend has been to the Ventura location and said that things were better there.

Coffee is not it. We ordered a White Mocha Latte with oat and it tasted like burnt coffee with whole milk. I also got an iced Hazelnut Latte with oat and it was ok, but could barely taste the coffee. Given the staff favorites, maybe this is a place for flavored Matcha, but I am not from here so I doubt I'll try this place again if I come back. The staff was lovely tho. Wish they would labeled their coffee once they put them out so we knew for sure the drink was what we ordered.

Early Grey Lavender Croissant: This pastry was delicious. The exterior was flaky and buttery while the inside was airy and light. The outside had a sweet frosting and the front side had a creamy flavored custard-like filling. The flavored filling was a lightly sweetened but a very flavorful tea flavor with notes of lavender. Not overpowering but just enough. My new favorite pastry here. Enjoy it with an Earl Grey Lavender Tea Latte. The perfect combo. Avocado toast: Served with fruit. It was super fresh and crisp, not slimy. The toast was a crispy sourdough. They add a layer of a pepper spread, top with sliced avo, and sprinkle some pistachio dust straight from the gods. They also top it with pickled red onion that adds just a slight amount of vinegary-sweetness. Next time I will order with a poached egg on top.
