Crema's Take

This New Haven institution has been roasting small batches since 1985, and regulars rave about their smooth cold brew and creative seasonal drinks like the beloved blackberry hot cocoa that tastes like winter dessert in a cup. The espresso-focused menu shines with pour overs and signature creative drinks, while the corner location with its cute decorations makes it a solid spot for lingering over coffee and pastries, though some wish the consistency matched their impressive bean selection.

Such a delicious blackberry hot cocoa. It’s the winter version of blackberry chocolate chip ice cream :)

The cafe is a good location with cute decorations and decent ambiance. But that's about it. Being a place with a wide range of coffee beans available, I expected it to be better. They don't have flat white on their menu. We had to take latte which turned out to be horrible. The espresso shot was too diluted and seemed like it was over extracted. The milk was too hot and lacked texture. The poor milk frothing was evident from the first look of the drink. We simply couldn't finish it, the proportions were wrong and had a bitter taste other than the taste of milk. Not recommend.

I spent some time in Yale last month and wasn't sure where to get coffee. This place came highly recommended by the hotel I stayed at. I have to say that it didn't disappoint! Great coffee, friendly staff, quick service. I had my little kids with me, and they loved the pastries. They have juice for my kids. It was a nice experience. My only complaint is that it's a small space; some mornings, we had to get our food to go because there were no tables available, and the tables are for 2 people, also hard to find parking. Other than that, it was great! Great experience! Totally recommend it!

Decent cold brew! It’s hard to find a coffee place around town that doesn’t have the burnt coffee taste so I was pleasantly surprised with their quality of coffee. The cold brew was smooth and the cold foam provided the right amount of sweetness. Staff was attentive and friendly and the shop itself was cozy, not loud like most of the shops around the Yale campuses.

Willoughby's Coffee & Tea was founded in 1985; they source, roast in small batches, and brew coffee. There are four locations in CT. This location was on the corner with steep steps; just a note, it's not wheelchair accessible. We were walking by and needed our caffeine fix. A family member also recommended the coffee shop to us, and has been going for years. Inside, there were a few tables to sit at. The customer service was good. I ordered a medium hot latte and it was good. It's a good spot to do some work too on your laptop, if you can find a table. Coffee can be purchased by wholesale too. Overall, a cute coffee shop serving coffee and tea. They're doing something right if they've been around since 1985!
