Breck's
2 Clement St, San Francisco, CA
Crema's Take
“Breck's thrives as a convivial neighborhood spot where locals linger over coffee and wine on the outdoor patio, often pairing their drinks with pastries from the adjacent Arsicault Bakery. The casual, hip vibe makes it equally suited for a quick morning grab or a leisurely brunch with friends, though the friendly service can be inconsistent and the space occasionally needs tidying up. It's the kind of place you'll want to visit weekly, drawn back by the thoughtful drink selection and easygoing San Francisco atmosphere.”

I come here at least once a week, as they have great coffee and selection of wines and aperitifs for sale. Location is great and space is cute. However, they consistently hire the most unfriendly staff. Often they won’t greet you when you come in, and will just scowl at you or stare until you put in your order. This isn’t all of them, but enough of them to make the shop fairly feel welcoming.
Great vibe and chill atmosphere. It's a local hangout. Many locals come here for brunch or to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine or beer and chat with friends. I noticed a young, hip crowd as well as an older mature crowd. I noticed quiet a few ladies of various ages dining solo. Couples also come in and out. It is a dog friendly place and there is a jar of cookie bones on the counter.
Stopped in for lunch and food was great. Good option for fresh meal option with the salad and avocado toast. Service was a little strange and place could have used some cleanup (dirty dishes piling up at service station, no napkins, etc).
We came here to grab coffee to go with pastries from Arsicault, which I suspect is the case for almost all of their morning business. Nearly everybody on the outdoor patio had white bags with coffee, and there are no other coffee shops or bakeries nearby... Logic dictates it's a mutually beneficial pairing. The coffee was fine, but there was a blasé attitude about it. Almost like our business was annoying. And there's a sign on the trash that states explicitly "no Arsicault bags". Look, I, and many others I suspect, wouldn't have bought $25 worth of coffee if not for your lucky location. Why not lean into it a little bit? Maybe it really is that bad and it's not a partnership that will ever work. But as a customer, it seems like such an obvious misstep. We love coffee with croissants. You are next to the best croissants in town and you serve coffee. Help us, and don't make us feel bad about that.
This delightful shop stands next to the Arsicault Bakery, and so it was a natural and easy choice to take our croissants from next door and order breakfast here. A breakfast sandwich, and avocado toast, and a cappuccino, and a glass of strawberry lemonade. The seating outside was full in the sun, but the heat was mitigated by a cool San Francisco breeze. The avocado toast was a tiny bit disappointing; it could have used more lime or other spices. The breakfast sandwich was very good. The strawberry lemonade was GREAT! One of the best I’ve had. I think it was so good because it was half strawberry and half lemonade-drinks of this sort are usually most lemonade with just a little of the other flavoring. The strawberry in this case was quite present, and that made the drink quite good, quite special.
