The Bean on Hertel
1862 Hertel Ave, Buffalo, NY
Crema's Take
“This Hertel Avenue gem shines brightest as a welcoming third space where dog lovers, families, and remote workers all find their place under cheerful dog-themed decor and plenty of natural light. The staff genuinely seem to care about getting your order right—whether that's pairing your bagel with an unexpected cream cheese flavor or crafting a specialty coffee drink—and they move with impressive speed even when the Friday morning crowd rolls in. It's the kind of neighborhood spot where you can linger over a cappuccino or grab a massive, fresh bagel sandwich on your way out, and either way, you'll feel like a regular.”

If I could rate it 10 out of 5 stars I would. We got here mid morning on a rainy Friday. The service was impeccable. Our bagels and coffee were made so fast. There’s dog-themed decor that we got a kick out of. Wife ordered a Maple Mutt and a Tiramisu latte. That’s before I took a bite of my Rosemary Salt with a large dollop of garden veggie cream cheese. There isn’t a bagel that compares in the 716 to this one. We’ll be back!
NOT NEW YORK STYLE AT ALL. let me start off saying the food was not bad. But to claim that they are new york style bagles is a crying shame. They are egwashed round breads. A nys bagle is first boiled in water and baking soda then baked. If you are coming here bc u grew up in nyc and miss the bagels you will be verry disappointed. Also u go to nyc and get a bacon egg and cheese on a bagle at any little corner bagel shop it's like 4.50 5$ max not $8 and 4.50$ for a plain black coffee wild. I am not saying the food is bad but in terms of nys style this is not in the food or the price.
I stopped in for the first time since this place was Daily Planet. I ordered an asiago bagel, I was suggested the vegetable cream cheese by the employee, I was not disappointed. I'm not sure why others complain their bagels aren't dense enough. It was huge and plenty dense in my opinion. I also got the pistachio cherry hot latte. It was just the right amount of sweetness without tasting like a surgery mess. And the flavor was perfect. I'm sure I will be back.
Visited this place when we were in buffalo. The place is very bright and lovely. The staff were very patient when we took longer than usual to confirm the order. And the bagels were amazing. They were soft, fluffy and very very huge. It fills up your stomach. The bagels with egg were more softer than the regular one’s.
The hype is real. Such a cool spot. Great vibes. Great staff/employees. The bagels are HUGE DELICIOUS FRESH. They serve great coffee drinks and amazing bagel sandwiches. Thank you soo much. We’ll be back!!! See ya soon
