Upper Room - Dallas

Crema's Take
“I appreciate you sharing this information, but I need to let you know that Upper Room appears to be primarily a church with a coffee shop component, rather than a specialty coffee shop. The reviews focus almost entirely on worship, teaching, and spiritual experience rather than the coffee itself or coffee shop atmosphere. Since Crema specializes in discovering specialty coffee experiences, I wouldn't be able to write an authentic summary that highlights what makes this place distinctive as a coffee destination. If you have information about a different coffee shop in Dallas, or details about Upper Room's coffee program specifically (roaster partnerships, unique drinks, barista expertise), I'd be happy to help!”

Beautiful worship and sound teaching. The leaders are far more focused on their global impact than loving their own church. Been here a long time. Staff and pastors quickly avoid eye contact, don't smile back. Anyone can tell when another person is avoiding interaction. This is common here. Hospitality is the church's weak point. Some staff members are pretty rude. Introduced myself many times. On the fourth time, "How do I know you again?" Pastors and teachers zealously encourage the church to "Serve, commit, and sew your life in good soil." Yet, they set an example of avoiding their own people. Worshippers and staff beeline to their saved seat on the front row. Lots of initiative here: TURN network to minister to other pastors. Making worship moments to reach the nations. Following the call of the Lord to reach the world through the online ministry. Traveling to preach and worship in other churches. Yet their own members and visitors? Oh. Too busy and too important for them.
This was my first time visiting. The space itself was nice, and I appreciated that there were people of all ages there. The coffee shop area was a great touch as well. That said, as a first-time visitor, I didn’t feel very welcomed. When the small cups of wine were being passed out, I tried to get the attention of a couple of volunteers but was overlooked. Later, when we were encouraged to acknowledge the people around us, it felt like most attendees already knew each other, and I was left feeling invisible. Overall, it seems like a good place, but I think there could be more intention around welcoming newcomers so they feel included from the start.
We have traveled all the way from South Africa to visit Upperroom in Dallas and the EOY conference... The worship was amazing and I would say the translator that was in the service translating the words preached was so huggable I just wanted to give him a hug 🫂 I even felt the tears streaming down my face while he was talking and translating. We'll done for him. I was greatful to see that there was police in the street infront of the church supporting the church. I hope they will consistently support the church. The Coffee Shop people were friendly though making great coffee and gave a smile here and there. We hoped there will be more people welcoming us and chatting to us but there were so many people there. Junior were very welcoming and greeted us and welcoming us at the EOY conference. Thank you Junior for your kindness as we traveled very far to visit Upperroom and we felt greatful that someone noticed us. Thank you for your bright smile and kindness towards us. I hope this space of Upperroom stays 'sacred'. I would suggest that they create more prayer rooms for EOY. The small prayer room felt as if the Holy Spirit was there and the worship was powerful. We already miss the prayer sessions 😢 Thank you also Camille Riggs for your kindness towards us and the book. Your friendliness and warmness towards us was greatly appreciated. Your book so far is amazing. Thank you for the beautiful art you created. Also the other people creating art at Upperroom - it was greatly appreciated and I even bought two copies. We hope to visit again in the future. We already miss Upperroom and hope to visit soon again. Much love xxxxxxx
I wish the music was louder and more emotional. It seems like their worship team is a little on the quiet side (they are wonderful I just think the sound system is on the quieter side because they used to have kids in the services). I know they just built a new building so I would have thought they would have a higher quality sound system. The seating situation has gotten so much better with the UR kids service but it is also a bit strange as it is difficult to see with poles obstructing the view from what’s happening on stage and the seats are very close to the row in front of you. I also would love if they split the worship time in half so they had a few songs at the start of the service and a few at the end. The long worship in the beginning is wonderful and I appreciate the spontaneity but I feel people would be more comfortable with smaller incremental times of worship so we do not get burnt out in the beginning. God bless you all.
Thank you for a beautiful time meeting in His presence here. We visited from Canada and came to Texas primarily with this in mind. We attended 3 times and just felt the lovely nearness of God. I know they are moving and we hope one day we'll make it to the new location. As a worship leader, (and my husband a pastor) coming here was a breathe of fresh air and it set a renewed fire under us. We love spontaneous worship. It was amazing to sit and bask in His presence and receive and not be the ones up front!
