Crema's Take
“SumSum brings an unexpected slice of Turkish hospitality to Honolulu, serving authentic halva, baklava, and traditional Turkish coffee alongside matcha and specialty drinks in a welcoming slow-sit atmosphere. The pastries and sweets shine when fresh, with particularly devoted fans praising the genuine sesame-based halva and the owner Daniel's warm hospitality, though some find the pricing steep and baked goods inconsistent. It's a genuine discovery for anyone craving an authentic taste of Turkish cafe culture without the flight to Istanbul.”

I do have to agree with another reviewer here. Halvah tasted great and the customer service was very friendly. However, the prices here were OUTRAGEOUS. We ordered two “small” slices of halvah and a bag of tea, and our order came out to $85. EIGHTY FIVE US FRIGGIN DOLLARS. I have never spent that much money in a confectionery store. EVER. I felt taken advantage of given it was in Waikiki. If you are charging your products by the pound, a better more honest way of charging would’ve been to ask the customers how many pounds we would like to order…. I came in feeling excited and left feeling very disappointed with the whole thing.
Walked by and wanted some baklava. I’ve been obsessed since my trip to Turkey. But it was dry, you have to buy 8 and get two free. But the cost came out to $30.
We stopped by this shop for a cappuccino, baklava, and halva. Everything was fresh, authentic, and delicious! It was a wonderful surprise to find such genuine Turkish treats in Hawaii. Even as an Amsterdam-based franchise, the craftsmanship is top-tier. We truly appreciated the quality and authenticity. ☕️✨
The halva tasted good, the baklava was dry and not even close to Turkish Baklava taste, and the overall experience was disappointing. We went there because Turkish coffee was listed on the menu, but they told us they don’t serve Turkish coffee anymore. They have outdoor seating, but the seats and tables were not clean, and they don’t have plates or cups for dine in! Desserts were served in baking paper and drinks were served in paper cups only as shown in the picture. Overall, they charge way more than the service you receive. We were expecting warm Turkish hospitality, but it was absent. Lots of room for improvement.
An absolute must visit! I’ve never been to a place like this in the states! Absolutely delicious Halva made with sesame seed base, Turkish Delight, and Turkish teas and coffee! Daniel, the owner and general manager was a gem! He let us try all the amazing treats and now we will never forget this magical place! Don’t miss this if your in Waikiki!!!
