Varietale is a warmly welcoming neighborhood spot on Chicago's north side where the staff treats you like a regular from your first visit, making it the kind of place you fall in love with immediately. Their espresso-focused coffee shines in classics like their standout cafe au lait that rivals Parisian cafés, while freshly made bagel sandwiches and beautifully executed pastries anchor a full breakfast menu perfect for lingering Sunday mornings with friends.

A friend took me here while visiting for the weekend and can say I will definitely be coming back. The cafe au lait is amazing and reminds me of ones I’d order in France. The bagel sandwiches are made to order and are delicious. The smoked salmon is a standout. We also ordered a chocolate croissant which was amazing. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Anything you order here will be good and it is definitely worth the trip.

I’ve been to Varietale several times, and it never disappoints. It’s a great café on the north side of Chicago with an awesome vibe. On Sundays, I usually come here for breakfast with friends, and it’s always a great spot to hang out, catch up, and enjoy good food and coffee. During the week, I also come by myself to get some work done and step out of the office for a bit—it’s perfect for that. Chill, cozy, and not too loud. The staff really makes the difference. The girls working there are super friendly, welcoming, and always on point. You genuinely feel taken care of, which is huge. Overall, it’s one of those neighborhood spots you keep coming back to. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Varietale is that coffee shop — the one you walk into once and immediately love! The staff is genuinely some of the nicest in Chicago. They greet you like a regular even if it’s your first time, and the whole place has this warm, neighborhood energy that makes you feel at home before you even sit down. The drinks? Delicious. Every. Single. Time. Whether it’s coffee, tea, or something fun and seasonal, they do not miss. The pastries and food options are always fresh and perfectly curated — you can taste the love. And the music?? BABY. One day they played the entire Cowboy Carter album and I swear I forgot I came there to work. Productivity left the chat, but a good time was absolutely had. They know how to set a vibe without being overwhelming — just the perfect background to study, work, chill, or accidentally have a mini Beyoncé concert. If you’re in Edgewater, do yourself a favor and stop by Varietale. It’s cozy, it’s delicious, the people are lovely, and the playlist alone is worth the trip. My absolute favorite coffee shop in the city! ☕️✨

I loved this place. I tried a pumpkin pastry and an almond pastry, and both were absolutely delicious super fresh and full of flavor. The café is beautifully decorated for Christmas, my favorite time of the year, which makes the atmosphere even cozier and more special. The customer service was excellent, everyone was very friendly, attentive, and fast. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this spot..

This is our neighborhood coffee joint. Their coffee is decent and their food is great — especially the cachitos. As a Venezuelan spot, I would love to see more options on the menu that are unapologetically local, and for them to embrace this more in their branding as their differentiator. So much potential! Go check them out.
