Crema's Take
“Rolling Out Cafe is a hidden gem where pastry chef Bruno crafts uncommonly good croissants and inventive laminated creations like blueberry mochissants that taste far better than their modest prices suggest. Recently relocated from the Bay Area, this downtown spot blends Asian-inspired bakery items with traditional café drinks in a casual, no-fuss streetside setting that invites lingering with your coffee and something flaky and perfect. The devotion in reviews speaks volumes—people don't just return, they plan their San Diego trips around it.”

INCREDIBLE! Bruno is an out-of-this-world talent! 3 thoughts go through my mind when I’m eating these pastries that food has never inspired: 1) This should be way more expensive; 2) I need to go back and change all my other 5-star Google reviews to be 3 stars because this is truly 5 stars; 3) This pastry makes me believe in the divine. I was in SD for a convention and stumbled upon this bakery on my first day, and came back many more times. Everything is amazing, but some standouts for me: Mango sticky rice kouign amann, apple lychee croissant, corn zucchini quiche. He also makes delectable sausage rolls with homemade sausage!
Really unique bakery items. We want to go back and try other things we didn’t try yet. I had the blueberry mochissant. Crispy on the outside, super soft inside. Not overly sweet. Also had a mango Kouign-amann. Just all very nice. Will definitely go back when in the area again.
Wow, wow, wow! Literally the BEST croissants we have ever had! One of our most memorable meals for our trip to San Diego! The croissants were flaky, melted in your mouth, warm. It tasted as if they could’ve been from France. They had a variety of savory and sweet croissants. We loved the classic butter croissant, goat cheese croissant, and the chocolate croissant. The owner was so kind! It was so good we went back twice!
One of my friends who lives downtown recommended this bakery, and I was drawn in by the Asian menu and reasonable prices, so I took the first opportunity I got to try it. I am so glad I did! I was so pleasantly surprised by the large variety of items which is impressive for soft opening. I had a hard time deciding and picked a large variety of items to try. Favorites: -mango sticky rice kouign amann: we loved the sweet and tart mango flavor and the actual pieces of glutinous rice in it. -chocolate and strawberry mochissants: the mochi stuffing inside makes sense and provides enough texture difference between the crispy buttery croissant which makes for a pleasant experience -black sesame croissant: there is so much black sesame filling in it and the croissant is so buttery and tasty -ham and cheese croissant: I thought it had a good amount of ham and love that the ham and cheese are baked into the croissant rather than stuffed after baking Needs improvement: Ube egg tart tasted like a plain egg tart. Overall, everything looks sweet, but actually they’re not too sweet at all and are perfect for Asian palate. That’s the best Asian compliment that not too sweet— meaning you can enjoy the underlying natural flavors. Can’t wait to go back and get more pastries! What an amazing bakery to come to San Diego
This place just relocated from the Bay Area and we heard about it from a friend. It's located in downtown on the corner of 1st and G street. There's only street parking and there's no indoor seating. It's just a pick up and go bakery. The staff was very friendly and answered all our questions. We got there around 10am on Saturday and half of the baked goods were already gone. We bought almost one of everything and pretty much loved almost all of them. Compared to other Asian inspired bakeries nearby, these baked goods are far superior in taste and quality. The croissant is flaky, buttery, with plenty of filling. The mochissaint actually has a mochi center! The kouign amann had a mild mango flavor with actually bits of sticky rice in it. The ham and cheese croissant could use a bit more ham and cheese though. For the price, we definitely recommend this bakery!
