Crema's Take

Leona Botanical Cafe & Bar is a sprawling oasis in Sunset Valley where the outdoor space feels like the real star—think water features, heaters for chilly evenings, and a genuinely dog-friendly vibe that makes lingering all day feel natural. Beyond solid specialty and traditional coffee drinks, this place doubles as a full bar with rotating food vendors (like the praised Dee Dee), making it as much a social destination as a caffeine spot, whether you're bringing kids, laptops, or just craving a peaceful morning by the water.

A great coffee spot with an amazing outdoor setup! The outdoor space is huge, peaceful, and very dog-friendly, which makes it perfect for relaxing. I really enjoyed sitting outside by the water feature — it adds such a calm vibe. It’s also nice that there are a few restaurants around and a kids’ play area, making it a good place for families too. The coffee itself was average, but the overall atmosphere and experience made it well worth the visit. Definitely a nice place to unwind!

This place is magical. I'll be bringing all my friends back. It's not just a coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating with heaters when it's cold, but it includes a great chill outdoor space with trickling fountains and a fire pit. It's oozing with atmosphere. While the main area is chill, it includes a fun area in the corner for kids and some clean, though outdoorsy, bathrooms. As if that wasn't enough, the buildings around the relaxing garden include restaurants providing (wait for it) Thai food and tacos. This place has my undying devotion.

We visited yesterday with my family and my two-year-old niece and had a great experience. The layout is beautiful, modern, and very spacious. Perfect for families. There were two food spots open, and we chose Vera Cruz. The Al Pastor taco was absolutely delicious and worth the wait. Drinks are ordered in a separate building, and the basil margarita did not disappoint! It’s definitely on the pricier side and I didn’t notice a happy hour, but the atmosphere makes it a fun outing on a nice day. My niece really enjoyed the modern playscape. We’ll be back!

Love this new place in South Austin. So much space and seating with a couple of food options and a bar/coffee bar. The food at Dee Dee was exceptional. Was there on a Saturday night and it was busy, the drinks situation was fine. Line moved moderately quickly. Food was very easy, ordered online and really didn’t need to stand in line at all. For as busy as they were they seemed to have a good grasp of their processes. The only issue is the parking. We tried to park in the lot but quickly exited and parked at Lowe’s across the street (Brodie lane). Quick walk on a beautiful night… Came back for coffee and I think the main problem isn’t the business, it’s people not having any patience for each other. There were parking spots but you had to be patient and maybe wait for a car or two to leave. Even still, people were honking and being rude.

I read this place was pretty popular, so we got here when it opened at 10:00 a.m. on New Year's Day- my three kids, husband, and I. There was already a decent number of parking spaces filled right as it opened. We kind of explored the place first before ordering anything so there was already a line inside by like 10:20/30 or so for drinks, but it only took about 5 minutes and my Toasted Sesame Peppermint Oatmilk Latte came out within 2 minutes and was delicious. We then ordered at Veracruz- 3 Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Tacos, a Fish Taco on a corn tortilla, and an Al Pastor Taco with egg added on a flour tortilla. The pork was a little dry, but everything else was good... unfortunately we ordered around 10:40 and it did not come out until 11:15, which is about a 35 minute wait. When I went to pick the food up, though, there was a sign saying wait times were now 45-55 minutes so I'm glad I beat the bigger rush. The setting is beautiful, with a little clear creek/water feature and bridge, lots of native plants, a natural playscape area for the kids, fire pit, different types of seating, and a sophisticated & cozy indoor cafe area. I bet everything will look even prettier and more green in the spring! The people who work there are very nice and answered any questions I had. There are two places not opened yet- one is DeeDee which I think is supposed to be Thai food, and the other doesn't have sign yet. Lucky for my wallet, we don't live anywhere close to Leona (we're up in Cedar Park) otherwise this would definitely be on our hangout spot list!
