Our 1st time here since moving to the area. I had a cup of chili (which is large) & the pork chop with fried okra. The chili is good but could use more seasoning...and no beans thankfully! The pork chop is thin but reasonably tasty...not as good & huge as Texas Roadhouse, but ok. The okra was crispy & cooked thru. My wife had the cheeseburger which is huge & tasty. Our server Mia was awesome!! Every employer would love to have someone like her.
Immediately when I walked in I was hit with a very unpleasant odor. Like, some kind of sweet funky musk. Not very appetizing. The pleasant young lady got me my coffee and water before an unsettlingly flamboyant gentleman came over to take my order. After taking my order he went back to whatever he was doing on his phone. The table was sticky and hadn't been cleaned properly. Has potential. I'd focus on getting the smell out first.
Wow! What a great little cafe! We were heading home from Galveston and got here about 11:00. It was a debate whether to order the Frito chili pie—which looked delicious!—or breakfast. Breakfast won out. My husband had the Boxcar, 2 eggs, meat, hashbrowns, and toast. I got the Breakfast Bowl, with gravy. It’s homestyle potatoes, crumbled sausage, cheese, and scrambled eggs, all piled in a little skillet. Of course, I got gravy to pour over the top. It was really really good! Our server was very friendly and helpful. It’s an easy-to-miss place in a little strip center on the east side of I-45, but it’s worth finding.
We returned to The Whistle Stop today. We had eaten there a lot from 2020-2021 but stopped going anywhere after Covid came out. The food was so awesome and we had Mia the fantastic waitress that we remembered( pictured below ). My wife had The Boxcar breakfast and I had the grilled catfish ( pictured below ). We will now return often.
MAAAAN, This food was so AWESOME. Hit the spot. I've been wanting to go here forever and finally got to go today. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed taters as the side I also got the chicken and dumplings it came with a side of corn bread. My husband got the Salmone steak with fries and fried pickles he also ordered 4 grilled shrimps on the side with some fried jalepenos. Spent like 65$ for to go order. I went in to make the order the staff were nice and friendly and everything looks old timey. Wasn't many people in there but it was also like 3pm and they close at 4. My chicken fried chicken and chicken and dumplings was the best I have had anywhere the corn bread so good too. That right there was comfort food that litterally puts you in a food coma lol. My husband said his salmon was a tad to salty but everything else was perfect. We will deffinently be going back again one day. Thank you to the cooks and staff for an amazing meal.
