Two Kids
1504 Mission St, South Pasadena, CA
Crema's Take
“Two Kids is a modern, intimate neighborhood spot in South Pasadena where espresso-focused drinks are crafted with care and the vibe is decidedly social but intentional—it's a no-laptop cafe designed for real conversations and quality time, not productivity marathons. The cozy space pairs excellent specialty drinks and light snacks with carefully curated retail items beyond just coffee gear, all while soft music sets the mood for lingering over a cup or catching up with a friend. Fair warning: the energy can get lively and the seating is limited, but that's part of what makes this place feel genuine rather than generic.”

This was my second time here. The first time was a year ago when I came in to grab a drip coffee and left right away. Back then, the coffee was not very rich and it tasted burnt, kind of like 7 11 gas station coffee. They were weird back then, and they were weird today when I stayed for a little while. First, there is a sign that says "no laptops" which means that if you have any work to do, which I did, you cannot work on your device. I thought 'well at least I can do some planning in my notebook,' but the countertop/bar against the front window was so high that I couldn't comfortably rest my wrists and arms on it in order to write in my notebook. The band music was so loud that I couldn't even drown it out with my noise cancelling earbuds in and my own music blasting at the highest volume. The coffee latte that I got was the larger size, which was $7.50, but when they barista brought it out to me, it looked like a small size...which made me wonder what the actual small looked like. Additionally, it seemed I was under scrutiny from the moment I walked in the cafe. This is not a place to relax, read, journal, work (even for a half hour), and I would not even choose it to meet up with friends. The atmosphere is restricted, limited, judgy, and non-creative, without any polish or uniqueness.
Two Kids has great drinks and solid snack options. Just be aware it’s a no laptop cafe, which I didn’t realize until I was leaving because the sign is small (my apologies to the staff!)
A modern coffee bar, with soft vibing music playing in the background. Limited seating, but nonetheless a nice place to chill and drink your coffee. The staff was nice and fast with their services. I ordered their Brown Sugar Latte which was pretty good. I also ordered one of their pastries, the strawberry apple pie, which was good, more so apple than strawberry.
Today I met up with a friend at Two Kids for the first/last time. I love Sharon Jones just as much as the next gal, but the volume was so loud we couldn’t dish the dirt. Since there was only one other customer, I politely asked if they could turn it down just a bit and the woman behind the counter replied “it’s actually at a set volume.” ??!🥴 Instead we sat out front in 90° weather and left with swamp butt. 👎
Cool neighborhood coffee spot with chill vibes, a little shop that sells some cool stuff beyond just coffee brewing tools and coffee beans, and some (limited) comfortable seating inside. There is also outside seating which is especially great during nice days. The espresso I got was wonderful, and it’s always appreciated when they’re served with a shot of cold sparkling water.
