Dominican Cafe

Crema's Take
“This casual Dominican spot in Wilmington brings together authentic Caribbean flavors and a genuinely unpretentious vibe, where you'll find mofongo and fresh empanadas that keep regulars coming back despite the occasional inconsistency. The kitchen clearly shines when they're on—reviewers rave about the steak and beans—though the experience can feel uneven depending on who's behind the counter, making each visit a bit of a pleasant gamble.”

I don’t usually write reviews like this, but my experience here was just too absurd not to share. I spent over $30 on my order—no problem, I was fine with that—and I even gave the lady a tip because I believe in supporting good service. But then, after all that, she tries to charge me 25 cents for sauce that’s supposed to come with the empanadas! Seriously? It’s not about the quarter; it’s about the principle. If something is included, it shouldn’t magically cost extra after I’ve already paid.
Stopped by Ada’s Gojjo and what a treat! The vibe is cozy and unpretentious, with fresh‑flavored Dominican and Ethiopian dishes side by side. Mofongo and injera‑lined platters are both stars—huge portions, authentic spices, and a welcoming owner who stops by to chat. Loved the empanadas and the lentil mix. There’s outdoor seating, easy parking, and BYOB if you want. A perfect casual spot when you’re craving something bold and comforting.
Found a fly in my food. AFTER the charged me extra just for using my card. So I paid extra to use my card just to find a fly in my food? HORRIBLE! Food was good until I found the fly in my rice. Smh
The food is always good here. Well, 8/10. I've had some not so great platters. I guess it depends on who's cooking. However, most of the time I enjoy my food. I ordered a side of beans which are 3 dollars. The portion was very small, and had a big potato chunk in it. It was more juice than beans. I literally dumped them into my platter and scooped them with a fork showing just how small of a portion i paid for. It was 2 fork full of beans. Not cool🤷🏿♀️ I'd rather have all beans no juice or potatoes. My only complaint.
Ordered online can’t remember what service. Late night I’m sure i was one of the last orders of the night. I wanted to try a little of everything. My faves were the steak and the empanadas very good. All the fried appetizers were pretty good. The chicken was okay. I was expecting more flavor or spice even. They gave decent portions for the price i think. Also would need more sauce. They give a lot of rice. I wasn’t a fan of the rice but like i said it was late night so I’m not complaining. Just know i ate everything so I recommend giving them a try at least!
