Blackbird Espresso

This is an Edited review. On Jan 1st 2026 (3 days ago) I filed an honest but really negative review. The review focused only on customer service, not the taste/quality of the food or the Atmosphere. So this edited submission will focus on the same. In less than a day after publishing my negative review, I received a response from the Owner of Blackbird Expresso. In this response, the owner acknowledged my concerns, treated them with care and gave validity to my issues as a consumer and customer. The owner apologized on behalf of themselves as owner and on behalf of the employees. The owner stated there would be additional training for staff in customer service, and - very importantly - the owner asked me to return as a customer and give them another chance! I know that already some level of training or discussion has taken place, because when I went in there this morning, one of the employees came to me and offered what felt like a truly heartfelt and sincere apology. So, it is clear that the ownership of the business really does care, and really is committed to providing quality customer service. This, it is only fair for me to remove the negative review and start from a new slate. Based on this, I am happy to offer a 5- star rating for customer service at this Blackbird Expresso.

Easily the best coffee and pastries in Spearfish. The expanded cafe is pretty and cozy and the in-house croissants are flaky and delicious. Great prices, too.

Was passing through headed to Devil’s Tower and found this cute coffee spot! I got an iced caramel macchiato which was made to perfection. We ordered the classic açaí bowl, breakfast sandwich and breakfast bowl. Everything was amazing! Would definitely come back again!

I won’t lie, I may have chirped with glee when I walked in the doors of this place. While I wasn’t a fan of the person who took my order, (she was a little standoffish), I cannot deny the amazingness of all the things that we got while we were there! I got a cardamom Thai latte which was delicious, and my father and I got a ton of pastries, a quinoa bowl, and a turkey sandwich all for our long trip to North Dakota. Every single thing was so, so good. Not a miss in the bunch. There is lots of seating and looks to be a great place to hang out or to get work done. I wish I lived in the area so I could try everything.

Visiting Spearfish over the weekend and stopped in here to grab some morning brew after an early morning walk. We are from a big city and were shocked to the prompt opening (couple minutes before advertised time) and the incredible hospitality! It’s refreshing to see people actually wanting to work and have such a happy and positive attitude. My wife and I both throughly enjoyed our coffee drinks and loved the decor of this place! I’d love to stop by when the outdoor fire pit is on. What a beautiful design and set up. 110% recommend stopping here!
