Crema's Take

Madrona Hill Cafe is a charming neighborhood spot in an old Portland building where the staff's genuine warmth and infectious smiles are just as memorable as their bagel sandwiches and house-made pastries. Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee at the walk-up window or settling in for a slow morning with jazz playing in the background, you'll find thoughtfully crafted drinks like chai and matcha alongside light food options that make it perfect for solo coffee lovers or meeting up with friends and family. It's the kind of place where the hospitality feels authentic rather than rushed, and where a casual visit often becomes part of your favorite morning routine.

Day two, in a row, I went to the walk-up window to get coffee and I was met with big smiles and a joyful attitude. It honestly made my day. It's amazing how a sincere smile can alter a person's trajectory...thank you!

Always love the bagel sandwiches here, and the chai. The music (jazz today) helps to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it a great place to visit while in the neighborhood.

Cute little spot for a snack size breakfast sandwich or bagels. Old building. Not much on the menu, but was delicious.

Madrona Hill Café is a nice little spot for some morning drinks (tea or coffee), food (they have a good variety of sandwiches), and of course baked goods. The breakfast cookie has basically the entire kitchen sink in it. And their dirty Chai lattes are delicious. It is decorated with nice art and has comfy lounging chairs.

The people working were SO nice (which is hard to find). Lots of seating inside. Cool old building, and very convenient little parking lot on the side. Mocha and cappaccino were okay; cookie was good. Unfortunately, Normandie sandwich seemed over-priced for how little of the ingredients were on it (unless most of the profit goes to paying a livable wage to staff...in which case, please put a sign on the wall and get extra credit for that). It was mostly thick bread and turkey layer was too thin. The quality of the turkey was great (flaky and tasty). But the brie (the best part) was barely present in a streak down the center, so I could only taste it in those lucky center bites (see pic). Wondering if they're advised to keep it so sparse. I wouldn't order it again. But I see the bagel sandwiches get good reviews, so maybe go with those instead.
