Crema's Take

Tucked into a charming historic building in downtown Madison, this cafe serves generous, house-made comfort food like chicken salad and creative sides that taste like they're made with real care. The quirky bonus? You might catch a train rolling past the windows mid-meal, creating a nostalgic backdrop that feels like stepping into another era. It's the kind of place where locals linger over lunch and visitors become regulars, especially if you arrive early to snag a table before the crowd rolls in.

We live in Arab and happened to be in the area for a Dr. appointment and decided to have lunch. I found this place on Google and liked their menu options so we decided to try it. My husband chose spicy fried cauliflower for an appetizer and at first I was a little disappointed that he didn't chose the fried green tomatoes but, after I tried it my disappointment melted away they were that good. My husband also got the blackened grouper with sweet potato fries and oh my word those sweet potato fries were the best we've ever had. I got the chicken with the hot peach sauce but, don't let the word hot scare you, it's not spicy hot it was just a warm peach sauce with peaches and pecans on top of the chicken. Both dishes came with a big warm yeast roll that would melt in your mouth. We will definitely be making the drive to try something new next time. If I can convince my brain not to pick the chicken again. It was sooo good.

I ordered the chicken salad plate and was amazed by the generous serving of homemade chicken salad. The pea salad, frozen artic fruit salad, and pumpkin bread were all exceptional and full of flavor. The portions were very satisfying, making it a truly delightful and hearty meal.

Main Street Cafe in downtown Madison is set in the old City Hall next to the railroad. The train went by while we were dining. It was cool to watch the train from the windows. They have a lunch menu and daily specials. I chose the chicken and dumplings from daily special. They had ran out at 11:45 after opening at 11:00 AM. It must be really popular and looked great at another table. We had the five cheese ravioli with a side salad and the Georgia chicken. The Georgia Chicken was delicious. The chicken had hot peach sauce and pecans and came with green beans and mashed potatoes, as well as a homemade roll. The ravioli was good but not as good as the Georgia chicken. The service was okay and the food arrived quickly after ordering.

I came here for the 1st time on a girls lunch. We arrived a little before 11:30. By the time we got there, there was already a good little crowd but we were seated pretty quickly. After looking over the menu our waiter came to take our order. I wanted to try the seafood quiche unfortunately they were already out. They were out of the other items i wanted to try, so I settled for the seafood salad. I was already disappointed that they didn't have anything i wanted but when they brought that seafood salad I was beyond disappointed. I thought when I saw salad it meant lettuce of some sort this was a freaking PASTA salad. It didn't taste bad but I definitely didn't think that's what I had ordered.I also had the broccoli salad & some onion rings. None of the things I ordered tasted bad but I would have never put those things together as a meal especially one that I had to pay for but these were the only things I saw that I thought would be ok to try and that were available. I guess this place just wasn't my cup of tea.

A friend of mine invites me to eat lunch with her at Main Street Cafe on Thursday, November 6th, 2025. The restaurant is so adorable 😍 It's interesting that the train comes right behind the building. That was a little unnerving. Lol. Anyway, the food was delicious 😋We ordered mozzarella sticks and corn nuggets as our appetizers. The mozzarella sticks were okay, but I was looking for a dynamic cheese pull when I take a bite. The marinara sauce tasted good with the cheese sticks. The corn nuggets were so delicious. My mom used to make them when I was a kid. That first bite took me back to my childhood. My friend and I ordered The Chicken Dressing with Gravy, Green beans, and a roll for our main course. The roll was so soft and delicious. The green beans could have used a little more seasoning but the meal was good. The food was affordable because the meal was only $15.00. I will be back again and when I do, I plan to order some corn nuggets!
