Crema's Take

This St. Louis spot combines espresso drinks with hand-dipped ice cream that's genuinely velvety and generous, making their affogato a local favorite worth seeking out. The Sylvie Bee Latte—a honey and cinnamon number—hints at their thoughtful approach to traditional drinks, though fair warning: the young staff seem more interested in their phones than your order. Still, if you can look past the casual service, the quality of both the coffee and cream here makes it worth a visit.

What amazing ice cream! Among the 4 of us, we had 3 different flavors and all were outstanding. Rarely do I find hand dipped ice cream to be so velvety smooth. The toppings were also quite generous. Staff was kind, offered samples of several flavors and checkout process was smooth. I’m going to do my best to go back before leaving town.

Sylvie Dee’s: where the ice cream is fine, but the service is served with a generous scoop of teenage indifference. Walking in, you’re greeted by... no one. Just the soft glow of iPhones and the sound of TikToks playing quietly behind the counter. Eventually, someone—usually a blond kid who moves like he’s in a slow-motion dream sequence—shuffles over and rings you up with all the enthusiasm of a houseplant. Eye contact? Optional. Gratitude? Unavailable. The vibe is less “charming small business” and more “held hostage in a high school group project.” You’ll get your ice cream eventually, but you’ll leave wondering if you accidentally interrupted someone’s screen time just by being a customer. With so many amazing ice cream and chocolate spots nearby—where employees actually acknowledge your existence—I’ll be heading literally anywhere else next time I need a treat and a tiny shred of human interaction. Sylvie Dee’s, your sweets are fine. But the service? As frozen as your product.
