La Colombe Coffee Workshop
4 E Elm St, Chicago, IL
Crema's Take
“This Philadelphia-born coffee institution brings serious espresso credentials to Chicago's North Loop, earning devotion for their meticulously crafted cold brews and creative signature drinks that go well beyond the usual cafe fare. The cozy Workshop space runs tight and efficient—expect a line out the door and intimate seating for just a handful of guests—but regulars rave about the quality matcha lattes and premium beans that justify the wait. Whether you're grabbing their canned cold brew for later or settling in for a caramel brûlée latte made with care, this is coffee-forward hospitality that takes itself seriously without pretension.”

Im really disappointed with the service today. I ordered a large caramel brulee latte and they started prepping a small, so I corrected them and the Barista barely acknowledged me and then turned around to hide the fact that he was not remaking the latte to have the triple shot I shouldve gotten along with the caramel sweetener and additional milk, but pouring the 12oz into my 16oz cup and calling it a day! It was really rude, patronizing and condesending to treat me as if I wouldnt know that I was being gypted out of the extra shot of espresso, milk and sweetener.
Very nice coffee shop in a nice part of town. They have their cold brew canned coffee available as well as a traditional coffee shop with a wide range of choices. The matcha latte was surprisingly good. Very limited seating indoors.
Today I find myself at a La Colombe “Workshop” in Chicago’s North Loop. For those who have yet to experience La Colombe Coffee, this is Philadelphia’s answer to Starbucks. Unlike their Green counterpart, La Colombe has strived to retain their coffee soul. Sorry Howard, no devils crossroads in Philly. I’ve ordered my usual. A cappuccino, in a mug, a bit dry. La Colombe has proven you don’t need to sell out to serve the masses. My cappuccino is simply delicious. Flavor forward, not bitter at all, and the foam creates just the right, smooth confection some of us require to start our day. A respite if you will. Moreover, the craftsmanship is a testament La Colombe strikes a balance between scale and passion. If you find yourself walking one of the neighborhoods high fashion stores, step on over to La Colombe in State Street and loose yourself for a spell. Enjoy
Great spot with a decent menu and a good selection of premium coffee. The space inside is very small though, only enough seating for maybe ten people at most. This can lead to the line being pushed outside which is not ideal in the winter. Still though, worth going to if you're close by.
Cozy coffee shop in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. Limited seating. The line starts outside. We had heard it’s a popular coffee shop and it’s been busy since we started standing in line. Friendly staff. Quaint! I did have an unfortunate experience after writing this review and discovered after enjoying our stay, I had to stand in line for a to-go order while my family waited inside. It was a 20 minute wait which I didn’t appreciate.
