The Shoe Bird Cafe
1500 Peachtree St, Jackson, MS
Crema's Take
“Tucked inside the Belhaven Student Center, this cafe strikes a welcoming balance between a casual campus hangout and a genuine specialty coffee destination, where baristas remember to be genuinely kind to everyone from college students to curious visitors exploring nearby literary landmarks. Beyond the reliable espresso drinks and crowd-pleasing vanilla honey lattes, they're doing something special with matcha tea and fresh pastries like their standout banana bread and Emma panini, making it easy to linger whether you're cramming for exams or taking a midday break. The energy here feels purposefully low-key and unhurried—exactly the kind of place where a spontaneous coffee stop turns into a memorable part of your day.”

My wife and I stopped at the Belhaven bookstore to find an elusive textbook (🤣) and decided to grab a coffee and light, mid-morning snack. I got a hot caramel macchiato with a parfait and she got the caramel mocha iced latte. The parfait was good, but the coffee was phenomenal! We’ll definitely come back just to get coffee and hang out.
It’s my first time on campus!! The barista was super nice to me and the Emma panini just hit the spot! I loved my latte- it was a vanilla honey latte!
I wandered into the coffee shop after visiting the Eudora Welty House, not realizing at first it was on a college campus (and I’m in my mid 40s). The Barista was super sweet and my matcha and banana bread were delicious. Just what I needed before a long drive. Thanks!
Finally made my way here. It’s located inside the Belhaven Student Center which gets busy if you’re planning to sit and work or study. My latte was ok. I had some banana bread that was delicious.
Visited for the first time this week and was pleasantly surprised by this cute little cafe. Although the Belhaven cafe area is not as much of a coffee shop vibe as other ones nearby, the location is perfect for a stroll with your iced coffee around the beautiful campus (which is quite peaceful during the summer). The employee was so sweet and her smile was contagious. I ordered a medium iced lavender latte with oatmilk. Their lavender flavor was not as sweet as one might expect, but it was still delicious. I would recommend sizing up from the size you would normally order because it appears their cup sizes run a bit small. I was initially surprised by how cheap their flavored iced latte was with alternative milk (only $4.50), but I would say the smaller medium size made the price make sense.
