La Java a Roasting House
430 Cardinal Ln, Howard, WI
Crema's Take
“This roasting house takes their craft seriously with fresh-roasted, fair-trade beans and creative specialty drinks that go beyond the usual espresso offerings, including a unique tea made from coffee fruit that shows their commitment to using the whole bean. While the drive-through can test your patience during peak times, those who venture inside or call ahead find consistently friendly service and a selection that appeals to adventurous coffee drinkers rather than casual Folgers fans. Their pour overs and signature creative drinks showcase beans with genuinely impressive flavor, making La Java worth the occasional wait for quality that reflects their sustainable, local-first philosophy.”

After ordering in the drive through, I waited 20 minutes for my order. They had me wait in the side parking lot and said they would bring it right out. After sitting and waiting in the exact parking area that was pointed to for 15 minutes, I went back up to the window. No one came to the window. I honked, still ignored. Waited there at the window for 5 more minutes before giving up and driving to the front parking to go inside. No one else came through the drive through while I waited. Ridiculous. The items themselves were good. At least this time they put the right meat on my breakfast sandwich and my latte actually had some color to it 🙄 I understand being short-staffed, but at the bare minimum don't leave someone sitting at the drive-thru window for 5 minutes when they've already been waiting in the parking lot for 15 before that.
The drive through is the slowest I have ever experienced. 15 minutes and counting in line, no way to back out and there were only 2 cars in line in front of me. It feels like going to the DMV. I love supporting mom and pop establishments but if they are this slow all the time, I do t know how they stay in business.
I have been here a few times now for coffee and other beverages. Their service is consistently friendly and efficient. Time spent in the drive through is reasonable, and certainly better than some of their competitors. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is fine, but nothing super remarkable. I typically hit the drive through. The coffee here is good; my experience has been that they have a smoother and more consistent taste than some of their competitors. They have a really good selection of lattes and other coffee drinks. I also recommend one of their chai variations. On the food front, I can't say I have much experience. My impression is they could use some additional vegan options on their menu; this is an area where some of their competitors currently excel. If they have them, it wasn't apparent during any of my visits.
My kind of place great selection great service picked up a bag to take home even. This is not a coffee house for people that enjoy drinking Folgers coffee. Great job Lacava roasting house
Sustainable fair trade beans fresh roasted locally. La Java coffees boast some pretty impressive flavor, but they also do some interesting teas including one made out of the fruit that coffee beans grow in. Coffee isn't the only thing they roast, though. At the Cardinal Lane location, you can also find fresh roasted peanuts and enjoy delicious fresh sandwiches and salads.
