CommonWealth Coffeehouse & Bakery
611 Hemisfair Blvd, San Antonio, TX
Crema's Take
“This San Antonio gem strikes the perfect balance between specialty coffee ambitions and approachable comfort, earning devoted fans for both its exceptional matcha and carefully crafted espresso drinks like the pistachio oat milk cappuccino. The cozy, inviting dining room and full breakfast menu (served until 3pm) make it ideal for lingering over coffee and freshly baked pastries, though you'll want to manage expectations for their more rustic takes on classics like the Croque Madame. With 1281 glowing reviews, it's clearly become a neighborhood favorite for those seeking quality coffee and food in a space that feels genuinely warm rather than Instagram-polished.”

The Croque Madame was made primitively, as if it was thrown together carelessly. It's just two slices of bread with ham slices, a fried egg, cheese, and that's it. No sauces whatsoever. A dry, boring something that can't even be called a dish; it's a primitive sandwich. I wouldn't even make myself something like that when I'm hungover. Oatmeal - this is something very strange. Imagine a compressed briquette of oatmeal, poured over with, I don't even know what, vegan "milk"? Literally a briquette. A brick. A lump. Dry inside and soggy outside. Maybe that's how it was intended, but it's unpleasant to eat. It's sprinkled with berries on top, but they don't change the fact that what's in the bowl looks like clumped-together instant noodles. The crepe with ham and cheese was excellent. Quite large and filling, they did a great job. Considering the price of some of the dishes, I'm not prepared to recommend ordering breakfast at this place. It's expensive and mediocre. We asked for a highchair for the kid, staff told me that they have them outside, and no one brought it to us. I found a highchair by myself but, since it was outside for a long time (I guess?), it was dirty and dusty.
CommonWealth is a delicious place to come eat and enjoy coffee in the morning. It feels cozy and inviting in their shop. You order up front and they bring your food and drinks to you. Enjoy your food inside or out on their patio. My husband really enjoyed his Americano and said it was really smooth. Our breakfast croissant and omelette were a hefty serving and packed full of meat. We may stop back again to try more of their menu!
Amazing! This is honestly the best matcha I’ve had yet! I got the oatmeal with a side of French toast and both were delicious. Oatmeal had the perfect amount of sweetness and the coconut flakes and berries were perfect. The French toast was also to die for! And my husband loved his breakfast too
This is a nicely located cafe that has delicious coffee. I had a pistachio oat milk cappuccino & it was hot, flavorful, and not too sweet. Their freshly baked pastries were also delicious. I hope to be back soon!
Excellent breakfast options until 3pm and lunch and pastries all day. Coffee was outstanding. I had the breakfast tacos 🌮. Yummy! Sit inside when it’s hot in the nicely appointed dining area, frequented by students and remote workers. During the cooler months, they also have a great outdoor seating area with park views.
