Crema's Take

This cozy Wilmington spot balances laid-back beach vibes with serious hospitality, earning consistent praise for genuinely friendly staff who nail both the details (perfectly cooked eggs, quick service even when slammed) and the bigger picture. The blackboard menu keeps things fresh and approachable, with breakfast and brunch specialties that inspire real decision-making dilemmas—the kind of place where everything sounds good enough to come back for.

We stopped by Blue Surf on a rainy Friday for lunch. The menu is up on blackboards over the checkout counter. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to your table. All of the servers were really nice and helpful with our dietary restrictions. They have gluten free bread and are knowledgeable about eliminating dairy. We had the turkey Brie sandwich (no Brie) on gluten free bread with the marinated chickpeas (no feta) as a side and the mahi mahi sandwich with salt and pepper chips on the side. Everything was delicious. Our coffee and peanut butter hot chocolate (almond milk) were incredible. The vibe is beachy casual with wooden benches and metal chairs at tables. There are also some high top tables and a few smaller tables for two. The bathrooms are gendered with a couple of stalls. The layout is fairly accessible for mobility devices.

Excellent experience at the Blue Surf Cafe. I was visiting my son for the weekend, and we were looking for a simple, cost-effective restaurant for lunch. This place was great. We highly recommend it.

First time here and it was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. We tried two of their breakfast specialties and they were both great. Eggs cooked exactly the way we asked for and the dishes were tasty without being super heavy. Will come back

Our daughter (uncw student) brought us here for lunch. Literally everything on the menu sounded delicious, brunch menu was also available which made my choice even more difficult. I opted for the brisket sandwich with s&p chip. I don't know if the chips are house made or not but they are so good!! Been craving them ever since we went! Plan on visiting again when we are in Wilmington. This place is a must try!

My partner and I tried this place today and though it was pretty packed, our food came out fast and the staff was friendly. My partner had the Havana Bowl. It looked nice and tasted good, but it was a bit heavy on the black beans. I had the Home Style Breakfast Plate, which is your classic breakfast plate, nothing too exciting. The only downside was that both my partner and I thought the bacon was overcooked and salty, but that could just be personal preference. We also tried the waffle with caramelized bananas, yogurt, and almonds. It had a kind of pumpkin spice twist to it that I didn’t realize , but didn’t mind. Initially, the waffle was drenched in syrup (pictured below) , so I asked for them to remake it with the syrup in the side, after that it was perfect. (also pictured below) We also brought our dog and sat outside, which was great. I’d recommend Blue Surf for a casual brunch with decent food and friendly staff, but it’s not a place I’d be rushing back to.
