Calic Bagel

Crema's Take
“Tucked away in an unassuming pocket of LA, Calic Bagel is worth the hunt for their signature invention: bagels with cream cheese baked right into the dough, creating an impossibly crispy exterior that gives way to pillowy softness and a creamy surprise inside. Whether you're grabbing their iconic Everything bagel or adventurous flavors like the Habanero Calic, expect quick service and bagels that taste nothing like what you'd get elsewhere—this is LA's answer to the traditional bagel, reimagined. It's the kind of spot where locals line up knowing exactly what they're after, family-friendly and perfect for a weekday breakfast that actually justifies the hype.”

I had trouble finding this spot. Area is street congested and in a seedier part of town. They have underground parking with an elevator that leads up to the eatery and that was nice. I ordered the chicken bagel sandwich, the biscoff latte with oat and the elite stuffed bagel. My total was 20 something. Portions are big. I was only able to eat half of the chicken sandwich. It was just okay. I needed more of the sauce and the chicken could have been more moist and flavorful. It just felt like the preheated prepacked chicken meat. I wasnt moved. The elote bagel was creamy and good but it was missing more corn. How can you call anything "Corn" when the actual product contains a stingy splattering of corn? Call it stuffed bagel with hint of corn! I don't appreciate being lied to. I like to know what I'm eating. The latte was okay. It was pricy for the small size I got. I appreciated the 3 different notes I tasted throughout but none of them were compelling on their own. It would also be nice if you offered customizations. I probably will not return.
Calic Bagel is truly on another level. Their signature bagels — with cream cheese baked inside — are pure genius. Crispy and golden on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and then you get that rich, creamy surprise in every bite. It’s next level. Even their flavors are so well balanced (and don’t get me started on the strawberry matcha latte 😍). Hands down my favorite bagel shop in the US — yes, even better than New York!
I would probably rate this place a 4.7/5, The stuffed bagels are really well made and packed with lots of cream cheese and flavor. If you like bagels with lots of cream cheese, then you’ll enjoy their stuffed bagels. I split 4 bagels with friends and tried the elote bagel, habanero bagel, garlic bagel and pizza bagel. I would say that my favorites were the garlic and habanero bagels. The garlic had a hint of sweetness to the cream cheese but overall was really enjoyable and the garlic was not overbearing. The habanero was not very spicy and it paired well with the cream cheese. The pizza bagel had a good flavor and the addition of cheese on top was good. I would’ve liked to see more pepperoni on the pizza and it would’ve probably made it better for me but I think most people would like it. The elote bagel’s cream cheese seemed to be mixed in with mayo and the cream cheese was not as strong. The cotija cheese dulled the flavor as well. There were small bits of corn, which helped place the flavor on the actual cream cheese but I don’t think it had as much flavor as the rest. It does not give the flavor that other elote flavored dishes give, definitely nothing like an actual elote if that’s the flavor you’re wanting, this is way more subtle. Overall, I think each of the bagels offer a unique flavor palette and they are all good.
Lives up to the hype! Unlike any bagel I’ve tried before. Had no wait on a weekday afternoon, and the bagel came out quick and hot. I ordered the Habanero Calic which was flavorful, doughy, and creamy. Highly suggest adding the Zab’s Hot Sauce which they have available in store. A lot of seating options both inside and outside. I will definitely be returning to try the Signature Calic.
This place is known for their LA style bagels. So let’s see if they’re pretty good eh or ew. I got their normal everything bagel and stuffed bacon scallion bagel. The everything bagel was COATED with that flavorful seasoning gold, had a crisp exterior, and fluffy doughy pillowy chewy interior. Pure deliciousity. The stuffed bacon scallion bagel had the same amazing chewy bagel base but was LOADED with plenty of tart creamy cream cheese and plenty of smokey savory bacon and scallions. This place is pretty good. Stuffed bacon scallion bagel $9 Everything bagel $3
