Buena Gente Cuban Bakery
1365 Clairmont Rd, Decatur, GA
Crema's Take
“This beloved Decatur institution nails the art of the casual Cuban coffee experience, where a perfectly pulled cafe con leche and impossibly flaky guava pastry are the Friday morning ritual for locals. Beyond the stellar coffee program, they're doing serious pastry work—think fresh empanadas, croquettes, and even Cake Boss-level custom cakes—making it feel more like a proper Cuban bakery than just a coffee shop. The compact, comfortable space with outdoor seating strikes that sweet spot between a quick caffeine grab and a lingering breakfast destination, with enough nostalgic flavor to transport you straight to the Caribbean.”

Every Friday morning starts with these delicious pastries and a cafe con leche from here. The coffee is on point every time and guava pastries are fresh and flaky perfection. And the service is so, so nice. Truly a neighborhood gem!
Pastries were great, the empanada was amazing and the croquettes too. The cafe con leche both hot and cold were not to my taste, nor was the cuban. The soursop milkshake was good though. They only allow 10 people inside at a time, and no dining inside. There are no chairs outside and the tables are high tops. There was no online ordering available either. For us it wasnt worth the 30 minutes in line or the $50 spent.
My go to coffee shop in Decatur is closed on Sundays, so I decided to try this iced latte. It's amazing! Growing up with family from the Caribbean, the flavor was very nostalgic. And no need for additional flavors. The espresso really shines through. Very strong, perfectly sweet. I've only ever had hot cuban coffee so getting it iced was a new experience. I'd gladly stop by again.
I got 2 empanadas: chicken and beef. The beef was ever so slightly sweet but it worked. That thing was amazing! I was had when it was finished. The chicken was good but not as good as the beef imo. I found my new snack spot.
The food here is beyond amazing! This is also an upscale bakery offering Cake Boss level cakes. The space is small but comfortable, with outdoor seating as well. This well worth the drive. The vibe was so good we sat and ate and drank our Cuban coffee while watching the steady stream of customers come in and pick up their custom cakes, and others come in to grab some pastelitoes and other treats.
