West Town Bakery & Diner
1916 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL
Crema's Take
“This West Town neighborhood gem blends a relaxed, welcoming diner vibe with genuinely excellent pastries and a solid breakfast menu that keeps locals coming back for everything from biscuits and gravy to their signature Dirty Chi latte. The atmospheric space is perfect for lingering over coffee or grabbing something quick, though you'll want to arrive early since their house-made baked goods tend to sell out, and the pastries—rich, buttery, and reasonably priced—are clearly worth the trip. It's the kind of unpretentious spot where the staff remembers your face, the coffee is thoughtfully made, and you can actually taste the care in both the espresso drinks and the breakfast food.”

I hate to leave a bad review but I hope this will be taken for the better. The place has a great atmosphere but unfortunately I had a bad experience today. My order was taken, no one asked me if it was for dine in or to go and they just assumed it was a to go order (profiling? Maybe…), no one told me my order was ready even though they saw me sitting in one of the tables (I can confirm because they gave me my coffee on the table). 25-30 minutes passed and I went to ask to the vendor about my food and it has been sitting on the counter with a “to go” ticket on it. I order a tofu scramble (see photo) and, as you can see that tofu is not scrambled, it is cubed, which is not bad but it is not what I ordered. Above all, I ordered a pay for a pastry that was not in the bag, I had to go again to the counter and ask for it. Hopefully this is not a recurrent issue and it was just a single poor experience. The food was not great either. I’m sorry, but for the tofu, a coffee and a pastry, 40 dollars is absolutely not worth it
Loved being here! Relaxing vibe. Good space. Super nice people. Our group ordered different things (biscuits and gravy, eggs and bacon, french toast) and it was all terrific. Good, neighborhood joint with a unique flair.
We came here for brunch. Prime location but parking can be a bit crazy in West town. We ordered a Dirty Chi latte, Chi latte, Latte and for food the Breakfast tacos, Classic breakfast, and a BLT. Not sold on the food but the outdoor patio was a nice touch and the service was nice!
I got the chicken melt and really enjoyed it. We also got a few of the cake balls but didn’t really enjoy them. The items we really wanted were gone by the time we got done eating… def get there early for the pastries. Very friendly waitress. Tight seating but would go back.
Baked goods are rich and delicious at a good price. We got pointed in this direction by the dispensary next door. It was 25% off there if you bought a baked good. Solid way for businesses to collab and we got to try great new food. The workers were cool and we're going back for breakfast. (Will update after). Update: Breakfast was phenomenal. Lots of options (for vegetarians and vegans too). Large portions so you don't leave hungry. We sat on the patio, nice cool morning, great service. The lattes are wonderful.
