Sweet Eugene's House of Java
1702 George Bush E, College Station, TX
Crema's Take
“Sweet Eugene's thrives on atmosphere and community—regulars rave about the moody lighting, good music, and inviting coffee-shop smell that makes it feel genuinely different from chain alternatives, plus there's plenty of cozy nooks for studying or lingering with friends. The pastries and baked goods are thoughtfully made (think savory spinach-feta or light blueberry cake donuts), though coffee quality gets mixed reviews, so you're really coming for the vibe and the space to settle in. Fair warning: it gets packed with students, especially during peak hours, but most folks seem to think the welcoming staff and distinctive atmosphere make it worth the wait.”

The place is quaint, the coffee is great. The downfall - The place was packed. Students everywhere. We ended up sitting on the deck as we were a party of 4. Overall we enjoyed the experience. Im only marking it as a four because if you want an inside table you may have to wait for it. And from what we saw you may be waiting a while.
The vibes of this place are immaculate and I love that there is plenty of spots to study or cozy up in. However, the coffee is absolutely horrendous. I wish I had not wasted my money twice on the coffee since it is simply not good. The actual espresso has a weird taste to it and the coffee I make at home honestly tastes better. The food looks delicious but don’t waste money on the coffee.
I had a great time coming here with my dad. Sometimes it is hard to get a table, or seat that you would like, since it is a little bit busy. But you will get one. The customer service was phenomenal, and so was the food.
I will be honest the overall atmosphere of sweet Eugene’s is what keeps me coming back, the down lighting good music and typical coffee smell are just so inviting and different from anywhere else in town, but…. The actual food and drinks are somewhat mid. They have the best ham and cheese kolache in town for sure but the donuts are usually cakey and taste like day old grease. The matcha is definitely a matcha latte powder and is pretty sweet but would be enjoyable for a beginner matcha drinker, same with their chai. Their London fog would be better if their baristas were more consistent every one I’ve had has been different. The milk in the hot drinks are often burned but the espresso is always good. The baristas never seem too interested in taking my order but it’s usually very busy so I don’t pay much attention to that as they are always very fast. I do visit often and will continue to do so though some consistency would be nice!
The spinach and cheese feta pastry was really good. Neither the spinach nor feta was super overpowering. The blueberry cake donut was very light for a cake donut. It was not super dense. The flavoring and balance was good. The environment is amazing and it has such a variety of seating that makes it fun!
