Banter
169 Sullivan St, New York, NY
Crema's Take
“Banter nails the balance between a serious espresso bar and an all-day breakfast destination in the heart of Downtown Manhattan, where perfectly executed dishes and thoughtfully crafted cappuccinos arrive in a cozy, buzzing atmosphere that's worth the occasional wait. The vibe here rewards lingering—whether you're settling in for French toast and a slow coffee or catching up with friends over impeccably balanced flavors and friendly service. Hit it early if you can, but honestly, the neighborhood energy makes the inevitable crowds part of the charm.”

I saw great reviews for this place & wanted to try it with my friends. We had to wait a while for a table for 3 (1 hr 40 min). Luckily we were in a busy area and had time to wander before we got our table. I ordered the Salmon toast and espresso martini; my friends ordered the BYOB (build ur own brekkie and a chicken burger. The food came out fast and drinks right after. The salmon toast was gorgeous. The right amount of everything. They added pickled onions and the right amount of dill. So good. They were also surprisingly generous with their salmon (better be for the price!!!). It's crowded in the restaurant, but the seats were cozy! I wouldn't visit again since nothing really stood out to me & there are a ton of other brunch places in the area -- but it was a good experience and nothing was bad.
Amazing spot in NYC! The French toast was incredible and the cappuccino was perfect. Super friendly, attentive service. Cozy place for breakfast or a quick coffee. Highly recommend!
Simple but executed very well. Their dishes don’t need to be modified at all in my opinion and every flavor is perfectly balanced. Seating is a little tight but to be expected in Downtown. Service is relaxed but very attentive which is the perfect middle ground I feel. The fried chicken sandwich was perfect, not heavy at all and well balanced. Poached eggs and hash browns were perfect. Technique wise, it rarely gets better than this.
The food was good, the coffee can improve. My daughter ordered the salmon toast and I ordered the chicken sandwich, it comes with sweet potato fries. I recommend this cute restaurant.
Loved this place for breakfast. The food was very good and they had great tasting coffee. We got here for an early brekkie round 8:30 and the place wasn’t full and quiet. Highly recommended if you’re in the area looking for a delicious high quality breakfast. The food was fresh and very tasty.
