Crema's Take

Ada's Cafe is a no-fuss neighborhood spot near Ashby BART where you can grab exceptional Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches for under $10 alongside a solid cup of coffee, all while a genuinely helpful team keeps things moving at a natural pace. The place has that lived-in charm of somewhere locals actually work and linger—the kind of spot where the owner will help you charge your dead phone without hesitation, making it feel less like a transaction and more like a small kindness. It's the rare combination of quick grab-and-go convenience and welcoming enough that you'll want to stay awhile with your laptop.

The owner of this cafe saved me by allowing me to charge my phone very early in the morning when my phone run out of power and I couldn’t find a power outlet all the way from the Oakland Airport to the Ashby BART station. The owner is very dedicated, friendly, and helpful. The service is warm, fast, and professional. The place is clean, tidy, straightforward, and calming. I had a very good morning here and hope to return. Thank you so much, Ada Cafe!

This place is a hidden gem for quick bites. The banh mi are especially delicious and a great value ($8). The service is always friendly and fast. It’s located right near Ashby Bart (you can get into the Bart station from the same building). I always just get a pork banh mi and it’s loaded with fresh veg, generous pork, and crispy toasted bread.

One of the best sandwich shops in town, great variety, quality and price (under $10!). Not overstuffed New York style, but with lots of fresh ingredients.

May 2021: I've always walked past this place for the past few months since I had appointments in the building, but I finally went in today to grab something to eat and I'm so happy I did. I ordered a pork bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwich on the menu) and a thai tea and damn, they're were both delicious. I didn't get a chance to take a good photo of the thai tea since I drank it so fast, it was really really good! The cafe has nice artwork on the wall and the man behind the counter was so kind! I wished I could've eaten here sooner, but now I know where to get thai tea and a bite to eat after my appointments 👍 December 2021: finally took a photo of the Thai tea before I drank it all. Very delicious, 10/10. Even on a rainy day, this place still feels homey and nice! January 2023: update, still delicious! Some prices went up by 60 cents to a 1 dollar but still worth it. All his ingredients are fresh and this is probably my favorite homemade Thai tea in the Bay. This place is a hidden gem and owner is still as nice as ever, 12/10!

Great service, hard working employees. The Vietnamese sandwiches are great and tasty. They do sometimes run out of coffee (or my Danish) in the morning though so you have to wait a little. They can do any kind of bagel (bacon n eggs, lox, etc...), any type of croissant filling, etc... Nice place for breakfast or lunch to go.
