Shelter Bay Cafe
655 Redwood Hwy Ste 103, Mill Valley, CA
Crema's Take
“Shelter Bay Cafe is a refreshing antidote to Mill Valley's usual price-tag shock, serving genuinely excellent espresso and hearty breakfasts without the pretension or markup you'd expect in this corner of Marin County. The owners clearly put care into every sandwich and cup, backed by a warm, unpretentious staff who make both laptop warriors and families feel genuinely welcome. It's become the kind of place locals keep coming back to, not because it's trendy, but because it simply gets the fundamentals right.”

I’ve driven past this place 100s of times but never stopped. I was in the mood for a sandwich and this place popped into my head saw a finally decided to try it and I’m glad I did. They make a great turkey club sandwich and are nice people.
Great Value, Great Breakfast, No Sticker Shock Shelter Bay Cafe is one of those rare Mill Valley spots where the food is good and the prices still make sense — especially for breakfast and coffee. The breakfast menu is the real standout. You can get: Egg, bacon & toast for $9 Eggs, bacon & hash browns for $11 English muffin breakfast sandwich for $8 Those are real, filling breakfasts at prices that feel almost nostalgic. Even the more dressed-up items stay reasonable — avocado toast at $14, breakfast sandwiches mostly in the $12–$15 range, and a solid breakfast burrito for $14. No “artisan surcharge,” no nonsense. The coffee is good and sensibly priced — refreshingly not one of those places where the coffee costs more than the food. Lunch keeps the same fair-value approach, with sandwiches generally $14–$16 and an $8 grilled cheese that actually feels like a deal. Add friendly owners, relaxed outdoor seating by the bay, and a genuinely local, unpretentious vibe, and this place becomes a dependable go-to. Not hypey, not precious — just good food, fair prices, and a place you’ll happily come back to.
Wonderful coffee and such a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The coffee is excellent—rich, smooth, and clearly made with care. The staff are genuinely friendly and make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. I also love the cozy vibe and the local art on the walls—it gives the place real character and makes it feel like a neighborhood gem rather than just another café. Clean, relaxed, and thoughtfully run. A perfect spot to enjoy a great cup of coffee and unwind. Highly recommended ☕️ Thank you
These guys rock!! The sandwiches are delicious and made with love. The coffee is actually good and not pretentiously overpriced. The people are amazing and so nice. 5 stars no question.
My favorite spot in the Bay Area for brunch and coffee! owners are super nice, and go the extra mile to make sure you have a great experience every time you walk in to their shop. In addition to the beautiful location, prices are convenient. They also offer healthy choices such as gluten free bread, and use quality ingredients. Highly recommend and will definitely be back !
