Crema's Take

Anthem brings a cozy, approachable vibe to Puyallup with genuinely creative cold brew drinks like their standout Cold Brew Macchiato that even picky coffee enthusiasts appreciate, plus fresh light fare like avocado toast that pairs well for a leisurely morning or meeting. While consistency can be hit or miss at the Sunrise Village location, the warm, family-friendly atmosphere and espresso-focused craft keep loyal customers returning—some for over a decade—making it a dependable neighborhood spot for both specialty coffee exploration and comfortable lingering.

Cute and comfortable coffee shop. I ordered a 16oz iced Americano and the bacon avocado toast. $21 after tip. I enjoy it, light portion size, avacodo spread was fresh. Coffee was a 4/5. I came with a coworker, she ordered the breakfast burrito, which unfortunately came to the table still cold in the middle. She had to take it back up to the counter for the barista to reheat it for her. Service and hospitality was ok. Quiet, if I had to describe it. Nice and quiet space really. Peaceful. I loved our seats, which faced out the window. nice and sunny!

This location is convenient but however my experience here is a hit or miss. Recently I’ve been told they have something and once I go to the window after waiting in line they do not have it. Today I came into the drive through for a hot chocolate with extra whip. I have already paid for my drink when another barista came to the window and stated they were out of whip cream and offered to put cold foam on top. I then stated I did not want cold foam on hot chocolate and asked for a refund for my order. The barista then gave me a weird look and said “a refund just for whip cream?” And I stated if that was a problem for her she then changed her attitude and stated “I cannot give you a refund. they just needed to charge the new whip canister and we will have it right out” They weren’t out. They just had to make more. Then I got my drink and it wasn’t even hot at all it was lukewarm. It’s not just about the whip it’s about not having the proper items when pulling up to the window after being charged or lying about them. The past two times I have went. How can they not give a customer a refund and manage to mess up a hot chocolate. $6+ a tip.

Visiting from the Bay Area, my local friend took me to Anthem for the first time and it did not disappoint. I’m usually picky about coffee, but the Cold Brew Macchiato was a hit. I was worried it might be too sweet, but the staff was very helpful and guided me through it. The afternoon ambiance was quiet and relaxing, which made it a great place to sit and enjoy. Parking was a little tricky but still manageable. Overall, a great experience and I will definitely be back.

My son always begs for the live out loud sandwich. I’ve been coming to anthem for a solid 10+ years when the only location was downtown Puyallup. (That’s when it was really good!) Then I started going to the History Museum location. After we moved to Puyallup we went the Sunrise Medical and now to the Sunrise location during the week and a lot of times on Saturday mornings for a break from the ministry. I always thought it was pretty pricey for what you get. For example the fries are $7 and avocado toast $10+ for a very small and thin portion. I understand it probably has a lot to do with the commercial space that they are in. And we all know post covid we pay more for less. The snicker doodle cookie is to die for and I would continue coming back just for that plus the sandwich and mango shake my child loves Friendly and helpful service.

I don’t really like to give bad reviews. But maybe this could be a helpful review. I have been to this Anthem location many times over the years, in fact, it has some very good memories for me. In the past, it has always been clean and well cared for. I have not been in a while. But came back yesterday for a meeting. I noticed there was a few bits of food on the floor, and dirt, and some places where it looks like a spill had not been mopped up. We started our meeting, and I was very distracted because there were some flies that were in the corner that seem to be attracted to the food crumbs on the floor. The service was good. And my espresso shake tasted good (I think?). But I did not enjoy it really very much. Because the overall cleanliness took away from the atmosphere, and made it difficult to enjoy my shake. I have been a customer of many of the Anthem locations over the years. And I was kind of surprised to see this. I hope this information will be helpful, not negative.
