Crema's Take
“The Mermaid Cafe is a beautifully curated San Antonio gem that feels like stepping into a carefully designed retreat, complete with thoughtful decor, inclusive touches, and merchandise that makes you want to linger. Their espresso-focused menu shines with creative signature drinks like the beloved La La Latte alongside stellar pastries—regulars rave particularly about their carrot cake—all crafted by genuinely warm staff who make you feel like a valued regular from your first visit. Whether you're settling in with your laptop for the afternoon or meeting friends over specialty coffee, this is the kind of neighborhood spot that turns a casual caffeine run into an experience worth planning your weekend around.”

What a wonderful experience! The staff are very friendly, welcoming and were extremely helpful. The store itself was decorated beautifully and very clean. I absolutely loved their merchandise and had to grab a shirt! Will definitely be back. 🩵
Such an incredible and unique space! The coffee and food are delicious! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. My go to is the La La Latte and gf chocolate chip cookie. I branched out to today and bought the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup—it was made ready to order and came out hot and fresh! Superb! All around incredible experience! 10/10 would recommend!!! 😊
We visited thee cutest inclusive coffee shop this morning, what a special and beautiful concept. We really enjoyed our lattes and carrot cake. The best carrot cake around! Love the decor and mermaid theme. We will be back.
We visited this place on a Saturday afternoon. It's in a small shopping center and you have to be looking for it. There's plenty of parking outside. One outside table was accessible too. It is spacious inside. The Mermaid Cafe is a coffee shop in San Antonio that opened in May 2025 and is known for its mission to employ and empower individuals with disabilities, including its founder, Leah Meyer, who has Down syndrome. There were a few people inside and more came and went while we were there. We only had coffee, and we noticed that their prices were slightly below average. They offer various drinks including flavored coffees. Light finger foods were available too. See photos. The place was clean and the associates were helpful. It's a nice place to stop by for a quiet cup of coffee and to support the employees
After a walk with the hubby at beautiful Phil Hardberger Park, we considered what to do next. Not quite ready to go home on this beautiful Saturday, we searched for a nearby coffee shop on Google. The Mermaid Cafe came up, so we decided to check it out. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, a clearly displayed menu, and a beautiful color scheme. The service was friendly, and the manager answered all our questions about the 100% gluten free menu. I ordered the broccoli quiche and an iced tea, while the hubby ordered the drip coffee. They have a variety of sweeteners, cream, and even cinnamon to add to your coffee. Both the dining room and the restrooms are spotless, and the place was quite busy. I 100% recommend this place especially if you are looking for a 100% gluten-free cafe experience.
