Crema's Take

Tucked in downtown LA, Kumquat is a stylish Korean coffee shop that takes its espresso and pour overs seriously, drawing devoted coffee enthusiasts who appreciate their thoughtfully sourced single origins and precise brewing techniques. Beyond the coffee craft, they've earned genuine affection from regulars for their fantastic matcha, impressive latte art, and genuinely warm staff—though arrive early or expect a morning queue in this deservedly popular spot.

located in the center of downtown LA, a stylish korean coffee shop. a lot of people in the morning, queue for a bit for coffee. surprisingly good latte art, pretty good coffee. it’s not a big coffee shop but still comfortable to chill for a bit.

I’ve been asking around lately: Why is it so hard to find a truly high-quality coffee shop in Orange County? I’m looking for a real coffee cafe, not just another matcha-focused spot. LA has Kumquat, which sets the bar so high. Even in DTLA, they provide a clean, sophisticated vibe and coffee quality that honestly greets your soul. I’m still waiting for an OC spot to match that level of excellence.

Definitely a shop for coffee nerds. Their single origin espresso and pour over menu is awesome and the iced pour over I ordered was immaculate. Their New England drink was great, but doesn’t hold a candle to their pour over. Also love the selection of beans on hand. This is a place that takes its craft seriously and it’s so well-executed that the steep price does not phase me. I’m not local, but I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

Flat white with Ethiopia Bishan Wate - 4 stars For this lighter roast I believe they use a higher brew ratio so the texture is on the more watery side. May have gotten a little bit of jasmine but it wasn't very pronounced. Turkey sausage breakfast burrito - 3.75 stars Sausage was on the salty side and seemed to have a strong ?fennel flavour. The potatoes had the same texture as the scrambled eggs.
