Walker's Pub
128 College Ave, Athens, GA
Crema's Take
“Walker's Pub is a shapeshifter of a spot in Athens that works hard as your daytime study sanctuary, complete with reliable coffee and pastries, before transforming into a lively evening bar with hidden depths—literally, with a cousin bar tucked upstairs out back. The dual indoor-outdoor setup gives you flexibility whether you're settling in for work or meeting friends, though the experience can be a bit uneven depending on who's behind the bar and what temperature your hot chocolate reaches. It's the kind of place where laptop warriors and social butterflies coexist, which means it captures that rare energy of being both productive and fun.”

Nice study or work spot. Daytime coffee spot turns into a fun bar at night with indoor and outdoor spaces and a badass cousin bar hidden upstairs outback. If I go to study or work, I always find a good spot, put my stuff down and go get a drink because in the past people have sometimes used the space without being a customer and I want to be respectful of that. Walkers has been an amazing part of downtown and UGA’s North campus downtown for years and will always have a special place in my heart!!
I'm writing to report unacceptable customer service at your establishment today. My partner ordered a hot chocolate, which was served at an unsafe temperature without warning. After taking a sip, it burned their tongue. When they notified the server, there was no apology, no concern, and no acknowledgment of the incident. Instead, staff laughed and made comments behind their back. This is not acceptable customer service. Serving a dangerously hot beverage without warning, then responding with indifference and mockery, reflects poorly on your business. Customers deserve respect, safety, and basic courtesy. I expect better from a business that serves the public. I hope you address this with your staff and improve your service standards. This experience will not be forgotten, and I cannot recommend your establishment to others.
My friend and I (both people of color) have been coming to study here for years. We’ve never had an issue until today. A bartender, (Hunt?), who neither of us have ever met in the years we’ve studied there, came from behind the bar and to our table with a wooden stick. He asked us if we had bought anything. We hadn’t yet cause when we came in the line was super long, so we sat down and got situated. Additionally, in the past few years we usually buy drinks but have had times we didn’t and it’s never been an issue. Anyways, he asked us to leave then walked right back behind the bar. As the only people of color in the building, it was extremely upsetting and disappointing.
This place is so hot and cold. There are a couple of bartenders who are cool and seem like they actually like their job and others who seem like having to have a nice interaction with a customer might send them into orbit. As someone in the industry, that’s so annoying.
So the only reason the pub got a one for food is because they only had muffins when I stopped in. But you could bring food in, order drinks, and sit down. It's a very cool atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. They serve alcohol, coffee, and tea, which is a unique blend of drinks for a pub. Definitely take a pizza in there and have 🍺 beer!
