Crema's Take

This vibrant Japantown spot masterfully blends traditional matcha culture with playful modern creativity, earning passionate fans with unexpected flavor combinations like yuzu sparkler with boba and Thai tea/ube soft serve swirls. The matcha is clearly their star—customers rave about its bold, balanced flavor that never tips into overpowering sweetness—but what sets Matcha Cafe Maiko apart is their willingness to experiment with signature creations and premium offerings like their famous gold leaf soft serve. You'll find fair prices, a cozy neighborhood vibe, and usually shorter waits than you'd expect for such a beloved spot.

I got their yuzu sparkler with boba. It was delicious and refreshing, a good mix of sweet and sour. Highly recommend if you are a fan of good flavor.

Me and my friend got a duo Thai tea/ube swirl! It was delicious and the cone was a nice sweet balance to the soft serve. Would come back if ever in the area! :)

Got the matcha-vanilla mix soft serve. The matcha flavor was strong and not too sweet, which I liked. Simple but good.

Stopped in for the Golden Sho-Gun (24K Golden Soft Serve). The screen in the shop shows a cone fully draped in gold leaf; what I received was a small patch of gold on one side, with the rest of the swirl bare. The matcha itself is creamy and pleasantly bitter-sweet and the waffle cone is fresh, so flavor-wise it’s solid. But the draw here is the gold, and the presentation didn’t match the advertising. At $11.90, it feels overpriced for what’s essentially a gold-leaf accent. Either apply the gold as pictured or update the menu to show what’s actually served. I’d come back, but for the regular matcha—it’s the better value.

love. love. love. during the Japantown festival day, there was a line of 20 ppl. most other days, it's pretty empty. but that's LUCKY for uu go enjoy their matcha. great prices imo and taste was amazing. really happy I finally went here and I'll be back for more. I'm sad they don't make the mochi waffle anymore, but if I want matcha ice cream or a parfait, this will be my go-to spot!
