Crema's Take

Tucked next to a charming gift shop, Coquelico feels like a cozy creative haven where the real draw is the exceptionally fresh food—think beautiful chopped salads and standout pastries—paired with a welcoming, accommodating staff. While their espresso work can be inconsistent, the café shines brightest as a leisurely spot for meeting friends over excellent tea, a superb latte, or their celebrated tea cake in an atmosphere that's as much about visual beauty as it is about what's on your plate.

We shared a delicious Chopped Salad today at Coquelico. The ingredients are extremely fresh, the salad is beautiful and the price is reasonable...for all of it! It's exactly the quality you expect from Provoidore. We also had a coffee which is divine. They use Spella coffee which is so delicious - rich, robust and very flavorful. It's one of our favorite coffees here in Portland. The atmosphere was bustling at 2p on a Saturday and not as loud as it has been during previous crowded visits. It's such a perfect addition to the new and improved Portland Art Museum. Our table service worked well and the staff was friendly and conscientious. A treat when visiting the museum!

Food is good. But the coffee was undrinkable. After waiting 20+ minutes for our to-go espressos (not lattes, just espressos) we threw them away. Just horrible. Burnt, bitter, bad. I don't know if their machine isn't callibrated or if their baristas have no idea how to actually pull good shots, but this should be addressed. Portland is a coffee roaster mecca. I expected more from a new cafe at our city's leading contemporary art museum.

There was a fairly long line and we were a little worried we wouldn’t get a table! It seemed understaffed as well, the woman taking our order at the counter left in the middle of it to go help a colleague and was gone for about 5 minutes. However the food was fantastic, reasonably priced, and we enjoyed ourselves. I will definitely come back again for lunch or for coffee and pastries.
