Meet Fresh

Probably the worst meet fresh location. They give you less ingredients whenever they can. Double taro signature comes with ice over half of the bowl. Frozen ice. Had to microwave it. The grass jelly tastes weird, different from that in other locations. For a delivery order, they did not put ice cream on the side which melted all over.

I’ve ordered the hot grass jelly soup before and always enjoyed it, but this time it was extremely watery with no grass jelly flavor at all. When I brought it up, the staff claimed it’s because it’s served hot—but it’s just warm and that’s never been an issue in my previous orders. This was the first time it tasted like plain water, and I’m really disappointed. I felt the explanation was dishonest and dismissive.

I don’t give 5 stars. We had the tofu pudding with grass jelly, mochi balls, lychee jelly, and boba. It is a large dessert so I shared this with my brother. Unlike a French Brûlée this has silky tofu, completely plant-based, and it’s not cloyingly sweet. Well worth a visit if you are in the hood.

This store in not inside Newport mall, you need to walk across to the 525 building’s 1st floor. The store is nice, well decorated with brief history of Meet Fresh and their most popular items. The counter is little messy filled with paper boxes. Their menu is solid, lots of items including waffles, pudding, teas, shaved ice, slush and many more. I ordered my fav mango shaved ice. It was delicious, large chunk of mangoes, one scoop of vanilla ice cream, all sitting on top of milky shaved ice. I also got the popular mango passion fruit tea. It was also refreshing and tasty. Overall a really good place to try out some extra ordinary desserts and drinks.

We tried the Taro Ball Signature and were not impressed. I liked the taro paste in it, but the rest of the colorful balls all tasted the same and bland to me despite different colors, shapes, and sizes. Their bubble milk tea was good. I also found their menu unnecessarily complicated. Prices were kind of on the higher side for sweets/desserts. The place was quite crowded though. So perhaps I didn't like it as much because I don't have a sweet tooth.
