Disclaimer I’m from Mississippi and have certain expectations. First of all the hush puppies were the biggest I’ve ever seen. They were tasty. A+. The shrimp on the po boy was a little small but they put a lot on it. The Remoulade sauce was good. I had the rice and beans as well. I give the po boy and rice /beans B. I ordered the bananas foster bread pudding. It was a little sweet for me but my husband loved it. The coffee they serve was excellent. The staff was A+ all the way. Great service. The best Cajun in the area.
Service was 15 out of 10 stars. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and genuinely seemed excited to be there. From recognizing regulars to table touches throughout my stay. The ambiance was great. I felt like I was in New Orleans. Muffuletta, bread was amazing, meat was plenty but olive salad was missing the punch. Beef stew special was tasty but lukewarm. Poutine fries, while piping hot and delicious, please rename to gravy fries or po’boy fries or something. Or replace shredded cheese with cheese curds, some of my favorite aren’t traditional poutine curds, they are Cajun spiced. Cook the fries longer to hold up to that phenomenal gravy you put on top. I could have eaten that by the ladle full. But by the time I was halfway through the fries were limp because they were undercooked to begin with. Do I recommend? Absolutely, I already have! Will I try different menu items next time? Absolutely.
For 3 adults and a child, the price was really good. The food was all good and I was excited to have gator. Will 100% be going back for more.
First time trying aligator- Food was alright, I ordered the fried gator plate which came with fries and slaw, and it was pretty tough. And pretty normal portion sizes too. And I also got A cup of rice and gumbo (my favorite part ) And some hush puppies- also very good Mine came to $19. I came with a friend and my food came out atleast 15 minuets before his , so I was eating alone while he watched. I Didnt love that. He got a aligator sandwich, and he enjoyed it. Said it was light on the aligator tho and could use some extra pieces. Also sandwich didnt come as a basket so sides were all sold separate. Atmosphere was super cute and chatty.
The food here is FANTASTIC!! Anything we have tried is beyond good, you can't go wrong with any of their deserts either. When you walk in you order at the counter then the servers bring the food to your table, piping hot!! It's a nice little sandwich shop. They serve; Po Boys, Cajun dishes, Southern Deliciousness, Poutine Fries, Gumbo, and Deserts and much more. It's definitely a must try when you're in Lawrence Kansas.
