Crema's Take

This Lawrence institution has earned its reputation as a beloved pie destination, landing on USA Today's top 10 list and drawing road trippers from across the country who make it a must-stop on their travels. The cozy, family-friendly atmosphere makes it equally perfect for lingering over house-made cinnamon rolls and pie or grabbing a quick coffee, though recent reviewers suggest the kitchen's consistency may have wavered on some breakfast items. What keeps people coming back are those legendary pastries and pies—the real heart of what makes Aunt Netters feel like a genuine community gathering spot in the heart of Kansas.

Aunt Netters was one of many pie stops I made on my cross country road trip last year. (I was able to hit most of USA today's top 10 list from 2024, which Aunt Netters was on, as they are once again in 2025.) And I'd say they lived up to their top 10 billing pretty darn well. As was the case with most of the other 5-star dessert places I visited over the course of the year, I made a point to try several different items, and I thought all of what I sampled was pretty good and worth its price; but there were definitely a few stand-outs that were a cut above for me, and really drove in the 5 star rating. In the case of Aunt Netters, I found their cupcakes and their pie crusts to be good but not stand-out. However, their (pie) fillings were all exceptional, and I especially loved the cherry which would be my recommendation to anyone who is going to (be silly and :P) limit themselves to just 1 slice. The other thing I can't recommend enthusiastically enough is their cinnamon rolls, which I'd definitely rank as some of the best I had anywhere in the US! Add to all that their very reasonable prices across the board, and you've got an easy 5-star must-stop in my book!

Used to love this place. Haven’t been for about a year. Had breakfast. No flavor sausage biscuits and gravy. Toast was soggy, chicken fried steak not good. Bacon was perfect. Think I will definitely stay away Tipped 15% for having plate dropped off and that was it as far as service. 3 girls standing at register. But no waitress on the floor You have to go up and order your food. Pour your own drinks. I’m questioning why there’s even a tip. It was certainly not earned as it’s pretty much self service

What a wonderful gem! After taking in the history of Lecompton, we stopped at this local restaurant and were so delighted that we stopped! Good food for reasonable prices. And you must have one of their homemade deserts—cinnamon rolls, pies, cupcakes! A must stop. You will not be disappointed.

Aunt Netter’s has a good variety of “house made” pastries. We tried the cinnamon rolls and found them to be just as good as the recommendations we had received. We also tried cherry pie and coconut cream pie because they looked so appetizing in the case. This is why I rated 4 instead of 5; they were a bit disappointing. One more note: cinnamon rolls taken home are amazing on the air fryer! Nearby unique shops are fun.
