The Athens Rooster
44 2nd St, Hudson, NY
Crema's Take
“The Athens Rooster pulls off the rare trick of being genuinely excellent at both coffee and food, with a cappuccino that rivals serious espresso bars and a rotating menu of breakfast and lunch dishes (brunch pizza, smoked salmon toast, roasted vegetable salad) that keep regulars stopping by daily. The owner's hands-on warmth—literally pulling out tables for guests—sets the tone for a place that feels like a local favorite rather than a destination café, making it worth the detour if you're passing through Hudson.”
What to expect
Classic coffee drinks done right. A slow-sit, outdoor seating spot, good for meetings. Full breakfast, pastries, and light food on the menu. Family friendly.

I have had many breakfast and lunch offerings and they were always terrific. Although the chocolate croissant was a bit messy, the combination of the melted chocolate with the buttery pastry created a perfectly balanced extraordinary flavor. I also had the beef chile con…
12 million stars. Cute place, excellent and kind service, great food. Their cappuccino was excellent, and the roasted veg salad was so tasty. The veg was roasted perfectly, the greens were fresh, and the dressing was delicious. I just finished eating it and had to write this. I…
Each time we’ve been to Athens, we usually stop here at least once a day. Today was breakfast. Pictured is the breakfast toast, with the smoked salmon added. He got the whitefish toast with pickled red onion. Both were hands down delicious. The iced Americano was perfect. And…
Made a detour on my way to NYC from Albany, to get some lunch.. love the place, and people that run it.. food was great l, keep it up.. The only thing I would change is the use of throwaway containers for food. I would have loved real bowl for that bean soup.
Owner snapped out a table outside for us so we could eat there. So nice! The food was amazing as expected. The sausage and pimento burrito delivered and the brunch pizza is exactly as good as it sounds. Perfectly prepared, crispy cheesy crust. Turmeric latte also quite yummy.
