Crema's Take

Bakehouse 46 is a Ferndale bakery and café that shines brightest as a quick coffee and pastry stop, with a genuine neighborhood vibe and solid sandwich offerings that keep regulars coming back. While their baked goods and custom cakes have been inconsistent (some visitors rave about the cupcakes while others find them overly sweet), the straightforward coffee and convenient downtown location with nearby parking make it a reliable grab-and-go spot for traditional drinks and light meals. It's the kind of place that works best when you're not expecting perfection, but rather a friendly spot to fuel up before heading out.

I bought a ½ dozen cupcakes for $26 expecting good quality, but it was very disappointing. The cupcakes were extremely sweet, the frosting was cold and hard, and even the cake itself felt hard and not fresh. For that price, you can easily get better cupcakes elsewhere for half the cost. Definitely not worth $26.

Extremely mid overall unfortunately. It was mine and my partners first time in. The two teenage girls working the counter seemed too embarrassed or cringed out to really even engage in our order. Kinda just staring at me lol. No “what are we getting?” “Let me know when you’re ready” so i just assumed i go and tell whoever is closest to me at the counter my order. I get a latte, two little cupcakes, and two donuts. The latte tastes like cold brew with a splash of oat milk. Very very watery. Not sure if they even used espresso. The mini cupcakes were nothing to write home about. The icing is griddy like powdered sugar and tastes of just powdered sugar. Very overwhelming and couldn’t ever eat a big cupcake with all that on top. And same with the donuts. Its just a blakes donut which is fine, but the icing man. Gross. Very cute shop! I just wish the vibe was not so weird from the workers being cringed out by their job. I get their teenagers and im sure they’re real sweet girls, but engaging with the customers is so important in creating an environment where people feel welcomed to ask questions and also engage with their barista.

I have wanted to try since Blake's took over one of my favorite cupcake places. There is a city parking lot and parking structures in easy walking distance. If you want to eat there, they have some seating. Besides the cupcakes, you can find doughnuts, cookies, brownies, banana pudding. Choices of sandwiches that are made fresh while you wait. I got selection of this months flavors, some normal and some trendy for trendy sake. They were the 2 bite size. I also got the banana pudding and a ham Sammy bagel sandwich. The sandwich was smaller than what you get at Panera or Einstein Bagels. But the banana pudding was some of the best I have had and much better than Westborn Markets. I might try a closer to home location again.

We've tried cupcakes which were quite good 👍! So we thought do a custom cake but was a huge disappointment with impression of "no one cares". Huge layers of frosting with uneven coloring. There are white spots and cake itself very dry. Spelled name incorrectly, very small, and wrong color even though explicitly written. We couldn't finish even half the cake 😕
