Crema's Take
“HomeGrown is a beloved brunch destination in West Des Moines that transforms a simple coffee stop into a full culinary experience, with Instagram-worthy dishes like cherry pistachio French toast and avocado toast that taste as thoughtful as they look. The space itself feels intentionally designed to linger in—part cozy neighborhood gathering spot, part refined brunch hall—with a breakfast bar, booths, and outdoor seating that invites you to stay awhile, and the genuinely kind service makes you feel genuinely welcomed. Come hungry and arrive early or with a reservation, especially on weekends, because this is the kind of place where locals and travelers alike willingly hunt for parking to get their table.”

Decided to stop in for brunch on our way back home ( Wisconsin ) and so glad I did. Was gonna have a waffle at the hotel, but the Cherry pistachio French toast looked amazing. ( Exactly what I ordered with a side of potatoes and Grits ) piggy don't judge. The server( Shelby ) was very nice and very knowledgeable about the foods and the menu.. The atmosphere is very nice, kinda upscale with a casual vibe. Then the food came out, the wife got the rueben with potatoes and that was actually very good, I rarely get a rueben but this one id come back for . But then that cherry pistachio French toast came out, and I was in heaven. Man, was that French toast so darn good, could've gone for another piece. Hahahah. Potatoes were cooked perfectly and the cheesy grits were amazing as well. As you can see, a box was not needed. Hahahaha If im ever back in the area, id be back
Great food, atmosphere and service. If having breakfast or brunch on the weekend definitely make a reservation though! Parking is hard to find and you may need to walk a little ways. There is not much room for people to wait to be seated inside the restaurant. However was worth the wait, the whole experience was great other than the mob of people waiting to be seated.
Homegrown is a great spot for breakfast or brunch. The menu items are refreshing and feel light on the stomach. I ordered the avocado toast with two poached eggs, and it was really good. The place is usually pretty busy, so there’s often a wait—typically around 10–15 minutes, but it can be closer to 30 minutes during peak times. Parking can be a bit tricky since it’s next to an apartment complex, but it’s manageable. Overall, it’s a great place for brunch with friends or family.
This is one of those restaurants where you really have a great experience - great ambience (you will notice a lot put into for better looks ), great tasting food - love the pancakes & everything we ordered. Worth your money. At times there could be a long wait that you have to plan ahead either by calling them ahead or staying in yelp’s virtual line. I highly recommend this to try this one out. We were finally able to dine here after two times backing out to long wait times.. which is a good sign for a restaurant 😊 Enjoy!
Love this place! Comfortable homey environment rooted in kindness. There is a breakfast bar, booths, tables, and outside seating for warmer weather. Service is spot on! Struck out on my 1st order as there is a new cook and my choice was untraditional. I had a Hazelnut/Vanilla Lattee and it was great! Goodies on shelves to buy on your way in or out. I will be returning as I love the environment and service. The food I am sure is great and I'll give another review or update this one when I go back. Posting photos including the drink & food menu.
